Selamat datang! Welcome to Borneo. Your adventure begins in the coastal town of Sandakan. When you arrive at the airport, you’ll be transferred to your accommodation – a hotel set on the harbour in central Sandakan. You’ll have a welcome meeting at 5 pm tonight, where you’ll meet your local leader and the other families joining you for your trip. After the meeting, get to know your group over a welcome dinner and get excited for the adventure that lies ahead.

Gear up for a day of incredible wildlife encounters for you and the kids. Kick off today’s adventures with a private tour of the Borneo Sun Bear Conservation Centre, where the centre’s founder, Dr Wong, will teach you all about sun bears, from their personalities to their important role in the jungle. Sun bears are the only tropical bear species and are the smallest bear species in the world. Next, get hands-on and create enrichment toys like puzzle feeders or scent-based toys – the kids will love seeing the toys they make being given to the sun bears as they watch on from the observation platforms. Have lunch at a nearby restaurant, then continue to the Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre, nestled in the Kabili-Sepilok Forest Reserve. Watch the young orangutans in the nursery as they learn how to climb in a specially made jungle gym. Later today, you’ll have some free time to keep exploring or simply relax at the hotel – maybe gather the kids for a dip in the pool to cool off.

Enjoy some free time in Sandakan this morning to explore the nearby markets or take one last dip in the hotel's infinity pool before heading to the jetty to take a boat transfer to your Kinabatangan River resort. Sitting on the banks of the Kinabatangan River, the resort offers access to local wildlife. Wooden boardwalks cut through the jungle and connect spacious and bright chalets which serve up great views of the surrounding mangrove forests. This afternoon, take a river cruise, where your leader will help you spot some of the local wildlife. Keep lookout for crocodiles, macaques, wild orangutan, proboscis monkeys, hornbills and kingfishers. If you’re lucky, you might get a rare sighting of the Bornean pygmy elephants that wander the river’s banks. Enjoy dinner at the resort before heading back out for a night-time wildlife walk. Geared up with a headlamp, you’ll set out in search of interesting insects or other animals that pop up after dark.

Enjoy some time to relax before setting off for another river adventure in the afternoon, exploring small tributaries by boat. Before you book you should know
- Borneo is renowned for its beautiful nature, and we aim to immerse you in the experience as much as possible. As a result, some of the accommodation will be in remote locations with limited access to restaurants and shops.
- There will be a few walks included on this trip on forested paths that can get wet and slippery. Shoes with good grip are highly recommended and will also be useful for getting in and out of low rise longtail boats.
1. FAMILY TRIPS: Please note that these trips are for adults and children travelling together and there must be at least one child under 18 with you.
2. CHILD AGE: The minimum age for children on this trip is 5 years old.
3. CHILD PRICE: Children aged 17 years and under at time of travel on this trip, are eligible to receive 20% off the full price.

Travel and visa requirements
The style of accommodation indicated in the day-to-day itinerary is a guideline only and may change. On some occasions, alternative arrangements may need to be made due to the lack of availability of rooms in our preferred accommodation. In these cases, we will use a similar standard of accommodation.
Throughout the trip, we request that our properties prepare rooms in time for our arrival, especially if we're arriving prior to normal check-in time. However, this isn't always possible which means we won't be able to check-in immediately on arrival at some hotels. Instead, we can store our luggage and explore our new destination or on some trips, have use of shared day rooms until all rooms are available.
GENERAL ROOMING CONFIGURATIONS:
Family of two: All family groupings of two will be accommodated in a twin room.
Family of three: Wherever possible we will put you in a triple room. Please be aware that in some places triple rooms are in short supply. This means that a triple room will often be a twin room with a rollaway bed or mattress on the floor. Where triple rooms aren’t available it will be at your discretion which of your family takes the single room.
Family of four or more: You will most likely be accommodated in two twin rooms. Where possible, we will accommodate your family in a quadruple room.
While we do our very best to ensure that family groups are roomed close together (in some cases, we can arrange adjoining rooms), we can’t guarantee this. Most family holidays occur during peak season and we sometimes have little to no control over the exact placement of rooms within a hotel. Please be understanding if we are unable to room your family in immediate proximity of one another.
