Northern Territory tours & holidays
Grab a camera and a wide-brimmed hat; you’re going to need them
Taking centre stage in the land of Oz is the red, rocky and culturally rich region of the Northern Territory. Well known for its enormous, monument-filled Outback and croc-filled Top End, the NT is the place to be for a full-blown Aussie adventure. Learn about the sacred areas of Uluru, Kata Tjuta and Kings Canyon with First Nations guides, then explore the swimming holes and rocky gorges of Kakadu and Litchfield national parks with an expert local. Throw in a few croc cruises, a showing of ancient rock art and a couple desert sunsets and you’ve been to the NT.
Northern Territory highlights
Search for ancient rock art
Follow your leader on the trails once trekked by artists over 20,000 years ago. Explore the many caves, walls and surfaces used by the Bininj and Mungguy peoples, Kakadu’s Traditional Custodians, to draw now famous paintings such as Namarrgon – the lightning man.
Starry nights at Yalka Eco Camp
Tucked into Palm Valley is an exclusive Aboriginal-owned and operated campsite in Finke Gorge National Park. Breaking up the drive between Kings Canyon and Alice Springs, travellers will spend two nights at an Outback glamping stay, featuring air-conditioned tents, ensuite bathrooms, campfire dinners and a full desert sky of stars.
Find the many shades of Uluru
It may be the Red Centre, but Uluru tends to change colours. Join your leader for an early wake-up to see it as a bright red hue before it shifts to its usual orange. Venture out at sunset and watch the transition in reverse while you sit down for a bush-tucker-inspired meal. Lucky visitors may even catch the purple hues of early evening.
Discover the significance of Kata Tjuta
Take a walk to Walpa Gorge, found in the heart of Kata Tjuta’s 36 rock domes. Full of native plants and wildlife, Walpa Gorge is a lively desert oasis. Learn about the significance of Kata Tjuta at the Uluru-Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre, where you’ll hear the stories from a Walkatjara narrator and try your hand at traditional dot painting
Cruise and spot crocs
Hop aboard local and First-Nations-owned cruises for an up-close look at the Top End’s croc-filled waterways. Armed with the know-how of experts, you’ll go in search of the many species who live around Kakadu and Nitmiluk (Katherine) Gorge, as well as learn about the water’s role in Aboriginal culture.
Take on the Kings Canyon Rim Walk
After ascending to the plateau of this 400-million-year-old canyon, you'll be treated to cliffs so sheer they could've been cut with a knife, and massive boulders that make you feel tiny in the best way. Then, climb down to the canyon floor to relax in the Garden of Eden – a sacred Aboriginal waterhole home to 600 species of flora and wildlife.
