While a homestay in Zululand is a unique and rewarding experience, the conditions are basic – foam mattresses on the floor, with up to six people (of the same sex) per room. Clean linen and pillows are provided.
Purpose-built overland vehicles are used for the duration of the trip. These multi-purpose trucks, equipped with large sliding windows, allow for excellent game viewing. There is no air-conditioning, however, so it can get hot and dusty inside.
The going can be slow over the long distances and often bumpy roads. A little bit of patience will go a long way towards your enjoyment of this beautiful land!
This is a participatory camping trip, so embrace the team spirit. You will be expected to set up and take down your own tent as well as assist with food preparation and cleaning.
As the early bird catches the worm, the early camper sights the animals. There will be many early starts either to make use of the better safari time or to beat the morning traffic on long travel days.
1. A single supplement is available on this trip. Please speak to your booking agent for further information.
2. This trip finishes on arrival in Durban on Day 9. Please do not book any flights before 7pm this evening.
Our Kruger & Coast trips score an average of 4.62 out of 5 based on 95 reviews in the last year.
A good introduction tour if you have not overhanded before with a lot of travelling but the views and landscape will make it fly by. With a mix of wildlife on the safaris and relaxing at a beach camp if you wish and staying with a local Zulu family gives you a wide experience and the leaders Craig, Karabo and Khensani made it a great trip.

A great trip for those on a budget and wanting to see more of the world. Be prepared for basic camping facilities. There is a lot of time spent sitting on the overlander truck so make sure you are wearing comfortable clothing. You might be able to get some laundry done but getting it dry might be an issue as you can be packing up ready for the next part of your journey. When you cross to Mozambique, you leave the overlander behind and are in a 4x4 which might mean leaving some of your kit behind. Just make sure you know what you need for those two nights.
