Intrepid adds six new trips to rail range
From immersive experiences to iconic railways, Intrepid’s rail range now features 50 trips, embracing train travel across the globe.
July 2025
Intrepid Travel is adding six new trips to its existing rail range as it welcomes the growing demand for slow, meaningful travel. Spanning four continents and ranging from 9-11 days in duration, the new trips include unforgettable journeys on iconic public rail networks through Vietnam, China, Laos, Malaysia, Kenya, Eastern Canada and Northern Sweden.
Since the launch of Intrepid’s dedicated rail range in 2024, it has seen a +24% growth in bookings year-on-year, as demand for train-focused trips continues to rise. While trains are featured in hundreds of Intrepid itineraries, on these trips the journey by train is as much a part of the experience as the end destination. There are no internal flights, rather travellers will spend more time interacting with locals and fellow passengers, seeing more of the countryside and venturing to less-visited places.
The six new trips build on Intrepid’s pre-existing rail range, which now features 50 trips. They have been carefully curated to offer travellers the chance to experience destinations from a unique perspective, while celebrating public train networks spanning the globe. The new trips include:
- Kenya by Rail: Trains, Safari and Beaches (10 days): Travellers have the chance to spot zebras and elephants from the window as they pass through two of Kenya’s national parks on the Madaraka Express.
- Malaysia’s Jungle Railway (10 days): A stunning journey through remote, lesser-known parts of Malaysia, where lush jungles and limestone cliffs line the route.
- China & Laos: Kunming to Bangkok by Rail (11 days): Travel on the first cross border bullet train from China through Laos and then onwards to Bangkok by overnight train on an epic overland trip.
- Vietnam & China - Hanoi to Kunming by Rail (11 days): Journey through Vietnam’s Sapa region to China, coming close to Tibetan culture in the fabled Shangri-La before travelling to Tiger Leaping Gorge to hike on one of the best trails in Asia.
- Northern Sweden by Rail (9 days): Travel through Abisko National Park and never-ending tundra, while stopping at remote villages and outposts as you near the polar circle.
- Eastern Canada by Rail (10 days): Journey from Toronto to Montreal, exploring the major cities of Eastern Canada, visiting the Thousand Islands, Ottawa and Quebec along the way.
The new trips build on Intrepid’s existing rail range, which offer travellers an added dimension of discovery, travelling at a slower pace with ample opportunities for local interaction. Each rail trip is accompanied by one of Intrepid’s local leaders, who not only help travellers navigate complex routes and stations, but also bridge language barriers, providing chances to connect with fellow passengers along the way. With an average group size of 10-12 travellers, Intrepid rail trips offer customers community, conversation, and a sense of connection
Erica Kritikides, General Manager of Experiences at Intrepid Travel said:
“Rail travel has taken off in the past couple of years and for good reason. In a world that feels like it’s always going at full steam, rail travel provides ease, convenience and a slower pace. The latest additions to our popular rail range are some of our most exciting yet, traversing both iconic and lesser-known routes and providing access to new places and experiences. As with all the trips in our rail range, there are no internal flights and the majority of travel is done by train, reflecting our long-term product development plans to leave lighter tracks.”
