Great Wall Tours & Holidays

Mao Zedong said, ‘He who has not climbed the Great Wall is not a true man.'

The Chairman might have been overstating things a tad, but we can say that climbing the Great Wall is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience (unless you happen to climb it twice). Snaking from Manchurian ruins in Liaoning, through Beijing province, and ending in a few wind-scoured remains in the Gobi desert, it’s the undisputed emperor of China landmarks. There are obviously dozens of Great Wall of China tours running out of Beijing (and Shanghai), but our local guides come with a few extra perks. English speaking, expertly trained, and with an encyclopedic knowledge of the Wall and its history – there’s no-one better in the business.

Beijing to Hong Kong Adventure

I loved the places we hit up, and liked the pace of the tour to fit into my scheduele but feel that we lost a lot of waking hours travelling, where I would have preferred to get an earlier start on the day and spend more of the afternoon at our next location. This was probably one of my biggest letdowns, as it did not allow for much 'exploration' on our own. If I had my time again, I would have had more time away from the group so that I could eat what I wanted and go where I didn't want to miss out on, or picked a longer tour.

The trip was poor and I was left stranded by Intrepid and would not use them again

This trip was incredible. It was jam packed and very full on but that's what you want in a short holiday . A chance to see as much as you can . I only advise everyone not to pack any large aerosols such as deodorant , even in checked in luggage as these will be confiscated at the train stations in china as it is like an airport . Even smaller aerosols sometimes get taken away so try and pack roll ones / creams . I even had a shower gel confiscated because it looked like an aerosol even though it was not . The whole trip was amazing and words can not describe how incredible the great wall of china is , it was absolutely breathtaking . Anyone thinking of booking this trip with intrepid should not hesitate . Peter our tour guide went out of his way to teach us various Chinese words and enhance our knowledge in everywhere we went . He often gave us a stream of jokes to go with it .

I loved China! This trip covers the ‘must do’s’ - apart from Pandas! My advice is to arrive at least a day before and book several days after the trip ends to make the most of your time there. By the end, you will understand how to travel/get about on your own. To me it felt safer than London. Just do it!
