Kilimanjaro tours & treks

At 5896 m, the world’s tallest freestanding mountain can seem imposing...

But that certainly doesn’t mean it’s out of reach. Kilimanjaro rises from the acacia forests and scrublands at the border of Kenya and Tanzania, and a guided trek to the summit is an accomplishment for the ages. Legendary local guides and porters, plus routes for different fitness levels and experiences, ensure you'll get to the summit safely. The climb will be challenging, but when you're sitting at the summit, looking out over the vast savanna below, you'll know it was all totally worth it.

Which route is right for you?

Marangu Route

The 35km Marangu climb is the most popular and direct of the Kilimanjaro routes, passing through grasslands, giant cacti fields and alpine meadows set against dramatic mountain peaks. It's also the only route where trekkers sleep in mountain huts rather than camping. The Marangu route is shorter, less challenging than Machame, and has an extra day of acclimatisation.

Machame Route

While Machame is longer and more strenuous than the Marangu route, it is still a very popular choice for trekkers. The 40km trail passes through cloud forests and moorland zones to the snowy, glaciated cliffs of the Kibo peak's south face. Unlike the Marangu route, trekkers descend via the Mweka route – a steep but scenic path through dry mountain desert and lowland forest.
