Wander the streets of Old Dubrovnik
You could spend days walking through Dubrovnik’s medieval Old Town and still not see everything, but you can give it a go. From Pile Gate (one of the two main gates into the city), walk to Rector’s Palace for its ornate architecture, sipping on a cold beer all the way to the cliffside Fort Lovrijenac. See Big Onofrio's Fountain, then check out the Franciscan monastery with one of the world's oldest, continuously functioning pharmacies from the 13th century. At sunset, take the switchbacks leading up Srd Hill for spectacular city and coastline views.
Play the Game of Thrones
If you’re a fan of the hit book-series-made-TV-show, you’ll know that Dubrovnik is, was and always will be King’s Landing. Yes, you can visit multiple Game of Thrones filming locations here, including Rector’s Palace (where Daenerys asked the Spice King for ships), Lovrijenac Fort (the Red Keep) and The Jesuit Steps (where Cersei walked with shame). You can take a GOT walking tour or visit the iconic sites at your own pace before or after your trip (shame not advised).
Daytrip to the Konavle region
Just south of the city, Konavle is known as the Golden Valley of Dubrovnik. With the most fertile ground, this region is filled with vineyards and fruit trees. Visit the small town of Cavtat with its beautiful architecture, ancient history and pebble beaches, then tuck into a traditional ‘peka’ lunch. Featuring lamb and other meats cooked under an iron bell (and a glass of Croatian wine), your foodie heart will be more than satiated.
Sail the open seas of the Adriatic
Starting with the Elafiti Islands (which include Kolocep, Lopud and Sipan), why not use Dubrovnik as your base to island hop the Croatian coastline? Take a small motor yacht or sailing boat to Korcula, Hvar, Brac, Mljet and Vis and spend your days lounging on sundecks, exploring port towns, swimming in super clear waters and making friends. Stroll through olive groves and citrus trees, indulge in long lunches with locals and try a glass (or three) of local Croatian wine.
