Is this trip right for you?
  • Many of the wonderful cities and sites of this trip are explored on foot. Please ensure you bring sturdy walking shoes and comfortable clothes.
  • Summer temperatures can be very high in this region (over 40°C), which can be uncomfortable. It’s important to use sun protection, wear layers to combat the heat, and drink plenty of water. Please carefully consider the time of the year you wish to travel and your suitability to that season.
  • The places visited on this trip often have cobblestone streets. Wheeling luggage across these surfaces can be difficult. For this reason we recommend following the guidelines in the Packing section of the Essential Trip Information.

Well planned, leisurely premium trip with excellent itinerary. I was stunned by the beauty of the wine and port producing region of the Douro valley. Sufficient time in Lisbon and Porto meant no need for add on days. Both are vibrant cities. 2 nights stays and not much walking makes it a restful trip. Short drives with well chosen stops (e.g. at Cabo da Roca the most Western point of Europe and elegant Carcais). Comfortable vehicles with WiFi. Centrally located hotels made nightlife, restaurants and shopping easily accessible. Coimbra is unique with the weird and beautiful wonders on its university campus. Trip inclusions are well chosen and worth it: Fado recitals, boat ride, tour and picnic at vineyard with wine/ port tasting, sunset cocktails on rooftop in Porto, tile making and much more. One is rapidly immersed in Portuguese life. Food and wine is relatively cheap. And still, there is plenty of free time for the independent travelers to explore on their own. It’s hard not to fall in love with Portugal on that trip.
