Central America is tropical, so expect a hot and humid climate. Make sure you protect yourself from the sun, wear comfortable, light clothing and stay hydrated - especially when out on walking tours.
Conditions during your homestay in San Jorge La Laguna are basic. Your room will consist of a couple of beds with clean bedding, and the bathroom will most likely be shared with the rest of the family. Hearty home-cooked breakfast and dinner will be served during your stay, which can be a lot more basic than what you're used to. However, corn, rice and beans are very filling.
Try to learn as many Spanish words as you can. Locals are very friendly, but also shy, so you'll need to make plenty of effort to break the ice. Attempting to communicate in Spanish is a great way of showing you care.
There are many opportunities to get active on this adventure. Some of the the optional activities, especially the volcano hikes, require a moderate level of fitness and sturdy walking shoes. If you'd prefer to take it easy, however, there are plenty of other things you can do instead.

Due to recent political protests, we have rerouted this itinerary to avoid Nicaragua. We are confident that this is the safest course of action for our travellers and our staff on the ground. The joining and ending point cities are unaffected. We will continue to closely monitor the situation in Nicaragua in the hope of improvement and to maintain our discretion to revert to the original itinerary or otherwise.
2019 CHANGES: From 20 January 2019 the duration of this trip will change from 44 days to 45 days as well as a minor itinerary change. This trip will start on the same day of the week, however will now finish one day later. We have replaced 1 night in Boquete with an extra night in Bocas del Toro. These changes come as a result of our traveller’s feedback that they prefer more time at a beach destination over an inland destination.
Our Best of Central America trips score an average of 3.83 out of 5 based on 6 reviews in the last year.
Try to get on with your travel mates, be mindful, tolerant & flexible. Not everyone wants to bungee jump or party till 2am. Everyone likes/wants something different. You aren't at home so remember things are done differently in other countries....and you will home soon enough.

My main gripe is that this trip was 3 tours combined but Intrepid only count it as one. This has happened to me in the past. Not good maybe I better book them separately. Also only need one night in San Jose for the transition.
