Buenos dias! Welcome to Guatemala. Your adventure kicks off with a welcome meeting at 10 am this morning. Enjoy a cup of locally grown coffee, then set off on an orientation walk with your local leader. After, your tour leader will help you find a nice local restaurant for lunch. This afternoon, hike through forest trails to a women-led regenerative farming project. Learn about sustainable agriculture, the importance of preserving native plants for future generations and, depending on the season, get hands-on with planting crops. Tonight, join a tortilla workshop at El Comalote. Discover the traditional significance of this delicious cuisine, then sit down for dinner with your local hosts.

It’s very important that you attend the welcome meeting as we will be collecting insurance details and next of kin information at this time. If you are going to be late, please let your travel agent or hotel reception know. Ask reception or look for a note in the lobby for more information on where the meeting will take place.
This morning, travel to the town of La Soledad – the starting point of today’s hike. When you arrive, lace up your boots and set off through maize and vegetable fields, past the cloud forest and nearby volcanoes. Around midday, stop for lunch in the mid-mountain forest area. Then, continue hiking to base camp. Tonight, have dinner at camp with your fellow hikers and enjoy some free time to rest under the stars.

Your travel time today will be approximately 1 hour. Your hiking distance will be approximately 5-6 hours or 7km (4.3 mi) beginning at an elevation of 1300m (4265 feet). Acatenango’s challenge comes from altitude and a steady incline rather than technical terrain. A measured ascent, strategic breaks, and hydration matter more than speed. Our guides monitor for common altitude symptoms and adjust the plan so the journey stays safe, comfortable, and enjoyable.
You’ll just need to take a backpack with your personal items for today and tonight at base camp. Sleeping bags and pillows are provided. Make sure you have clothing for cold weather. Your main luggage will be safely stored at your hotel in Antigua and collected the next day.
Should you be unable to complete the hike you will be required to descend in a 4WD vehicle at your own cost. This cost varies depending on the point where you need to turn back from.
Wake up early this morning and prepare for the final assent to the summit of Acatenango Volcano. With panoramic views of the southern Mexican Highlands and the active Volcan de Fuego, the summit will offer a fantastic spot to watch the sunrise. Take it all in before hiking back to camp, where you’ll refuel with a hot breakfast before beginning the descent to La Soledad. After returning to town, travel back to Antigua. When you arrive this afternoon, maybe wander through town to find a local cafe for lunch, then maybe relax with a massage.

Your travel time today will be approximately 1 hour. The hike to Acatenango Volcano summit will be approximately 2 hours or 2 km with an elevation gain of about 376 m. Acatenango Summit sits at 3976m above sea level. On your way back your hiking time will be 4 hours. When descending you will first stop in the Base Camp for breakfast before continuing to La Soledad.
With no further activities today, it’s time to pack the hiking boots in your suitcase as your trip comes to an end this morning. If you'd like to extend your stay, just speak to your booking agent ahead of time.

Throughout the trip, we request that our properties prepare rooms in time for our arrival, especially if we're arriving prior to normal check-in time. Instead, we can store our luggage and explore our new destination or on some trips, have use of shared day rooms until all rooms are available.
