Why you'll love this trip
  • The much-photographed Registan in Samarkand is one of the true pinnacles of Islamic architecture. You'll be wowed by the scale, grandeur and beauty of the monuments to iconic figures such as Tamerlane and the Persia-influenced madressas, mosques and mausoleums.
  • Central Asia is a fascinating and unique mix of ancient Silk Road culture, Soviet influence and striving to redefine nations post independence. Geographically and for a time historically, it is the real centre of Asia.
  • Spend an evening in the isolated Kyzylkum Desert, warming yourself by the fire and sleeping in a yurt.
  • Get to really know the stories and people of Uzbekistan while sharing home-cooked meals with local families, including a home stay in the remote Nuratau Mountains.
  • Spend time in World Heritage-listed Bukhara, a 6th-century-BC city that's drenched in history and home to the formidable Ark of Bukhara.

Is this trip right for you?
  • Still have some hesitation about going to Uzbekistan? Here are four reasons why you should visit: https://www.intrepidtravel.com/adventures/why-visit-uzbekistan-now/
  • Central Asia is a remote destination, perfect for intrepid travellers in the true sense of the word! You will venture well away from cities, right off the beaten track and be able to immerse yourself in local food, life and culture.
  • Accommodation may on occasion be more basic than what you are used to in homestays, guesthouses and yurt stay. Shower and toilet facilities will be limited in some places and non existent in others. While the comfort level won't always be high, the rewards of living in true local style in this far-out part of the world are immeasurable.
  • As the trip only has limited time in Tashkent, we highly recommend staying a few extra days before or after your tour to enjoy all this great city has to offer

I was very wary of being in an organised tour, but now I am single I want to travel to the more unusual destinations without having to do all the research and planning involved with independent travel (timetables, not being able to read websites in a different language, etc). Intrepid made my holiday to Uzbekistan brilliant - great organisation, variety of sites and things to do, and the best tour guide. Took the pain and anxiety out of travel and I have made new friends around the world.

Please go to Uzbekistan! It's such an amazing part of the world with such a rich culture, and more people should experience it! This trip makes it easy for you to see all the country's different facets, and it takes care of all the logistics that you might be worried about. Do it, I promise you won't regret it!

I left the trip with mixed feelings. Uzbekistan has a rich history and amazing sights, but the trip somehow felt more like a school trip for young adults than adult travellers. It is almost too clinical, as it lacked local interactions. If comfort is your thing, this trip is very easy and very comfortable. But it lack authenticity. I would suggest change in name from Expedition as it has very little to do with that.

Uzbekistan is such a breathtaking and beautiful country: from its stunning buildings to its delicious food to the kindness of its people. Our tour guide Richard was exceptional and made this trip even better! Would 100% recommend !!
