Why you'll love this trip
  • Travel into the Thar Desert, spending a memorable evening eating Rajasthani food under the stars in a camp set among sand dunes.
  • Cut through the chaos of Jodhpur’s Sadar Bazaar with your knowledgeable local leader, haggling for handicrafts and sipping some of the best lassi in town.
  • Snap incredible photos of the immense Chand Baori, a grand ninth-century stepwell in rural Abhaneri that extends over 20 metres into the earth.
  • Explore the centre of India’s spiritual heart – Varanasi – on a guided walking tour through the alleyways of the Old Town right to the bank of the Ganges.
  • India can be intimidating, but with your local leader there the whole way, you’ll be dodging cows, navigating market stalls, and eating from the best chaat stalls in Delhi in no time.
  • By travelling on this trip, you’ll learn about our Intrepid Foundation partner, Positive Change for Marine Life. Donations help them to nurture ocean health with community-led conservation initiatives that inspire coastal restoration, sustainable fishing practices and waste-management. Intrepid will double the impact by dollar-matching all post-trip donations made to The Intrepid Foundation.

Is this trip right for you?
  • This is a trip made for travellers who value their independence but also want the benefit of a local leader and a group of like-minded travellers. The itinerary has a mix of included activities and free time when your leader will offer suggestions. Please budget spending money for optional activities you want to partake in.
  • In order to see as much as possible in this vast country, this trip involves some very long bus and train journeys, including a 19-hour overnight train from Delhi to Jaisalmer and a 15-hour overnight train from Varanasi to Delhi. These trips can be tiring but offer a quintessential Indian experience.
  • Overnight trains feature padded berths with sheets, a pillow, and a blanket provided (although some people prefer to bring their own sleeping sheet). This tour is great! You move quite a bit between places (pretty much every 2nd day is a travel day), but you get to see so much. Our guide Surya was very caring and knowledgable and made this trip unforgetable. I wish we stayed at the desert for a few more hours, it felt very short, but overall I really enjoyed the tour.

As a disliker of group travel, I was pleasantly surprised about the level of freedom that was available. With all travelers being savvy, it was a fun trip. The India basic experience requires some understanding of comfort in a developing country and - in April and May - a high heat tolerance.

I absolutely loved this trip. It was a great amount of time to spend in North India and I learnt and saw so much in just 3 weeks. If you want to experience India in a more authentic way, consider this trip a privilege to be a part of. You are especially lucky if you have Surya as your guide! It was a trip I will always recommend!

I went on the Northern India Recealed tour and it was the trip of a lifetime. We saw so many amazing sites and learned about the Indian culture through our knowledge guide. Everything was taken care of upon my arrival and I felt like I could relax and open my mind to new experiences. I could not recommend Intrepid enough.

An explosion of culture & experiences. The variety of destinations & transports was an amazing experiences. It is fast paced & intense with little free time. Our leader Joe was for sure an integral part of making this trip amazing! Not for the faint hearted but highly recommended!
