Trips from 1 January 2023 onwards

From 1 January 2023, Intrepid will no longer require travellers to provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19 (excluding all Polar trips and select adventure cruises). However, we continue to strongly recommend that all Intrepid travellers and leaders get vaccinated to protect themselves and others.

Specific proof of testing or vaccination may still be required by your destination or airline. Please ensure you check travel and entry requirements carefully.

Hobart Airport is located 17 kilometres east of the CBD. A SkyBus service travels to/from the city, but it costs about the same (or sometimes less) to catch a taxi or an Uber.

Car rental desks are available at the airport and many companies also have an office in town. If you need a hire car, book early as prices rise substantially during peak travel periods when hire cars are in high demand.

Most places in Hobart are within easy walking distance. There are no trains, trams or public ferries but there are buses. If possible, you might like to avoid travelling around using public transport on Sundays as it can get tricky due to the reduced timetable. Hobart, and Tassie in general, is a year-round destination. There's a buzz in summer (December-February) with alfresco diners along the waterfront, warm weather for exploring the Botanic Gardens and walking trails around Hobart, and heaps of festivals and events.

Spring (September-November) and autumn (March-May) are great times to go walking thanks to seasonal colours throughout Hobart and southern Tasmania, while winter is perfect if you love crisp winter days and rugging up in cosy pubs around a log fire.

In short, pretty much everything. Bring clothes you can layer plus a jumper or jacket, wet weather gear, sunscreen, a hat and a beanie. And don't be surprised if you end up wearing all these things on the same day!

Hobart is a fairly casual place although locals do tend to dress up if they are 'hitting the town' at night. Smart casual is the norm at restaurants in Hobart, aside from the signature 'date night' ones like Landscape Restaurant & Grill where people tend to dress up more.
