Why you'll love this trip
  • Gain a greater insight into life in northern Vietnam with an itinerary that explores not just Hanoi but also heads out into the countryside
  • Hike through the picturesque valleys surrounding Sapa and visit local communities
  • Cycle out to Mai Chau and on through the stunning karst landscapes to Ninh Binh
  • Kayak around karsts and explore the secluded lagoons and caves of Lan Ha Bay - the lesser visited but just as beautiful sister of Halong Bay
  • By travelling on this trip, you’ll directly support our Intrepid Foundation partner, World Bicycle Relief. Donations provide school kids, health workers, and farmers in far-out areas with bicycles that provide access to education, healthcare, and income.

Is this trip right for you?
  • This trip has a number of activities to get your pulse going. Whilst prior training for each activity is not necessary, a moderate level of fitness will help you to get the most out of the included activities
  • The hike in the hills of Sapa is approximately 10 kilometres (6.2miles) in total, on sometimes steep and uneven terrain
  • You will spend 2 days on your bike, riding to Mai Chau and Ninh Binh, with approximately 60-70 kilometres of cycling each day. The cycling in these areas is relatively flat and you will have time to get used to your bike in Hanoi before departing
  • There are 3 nights of homestay on this trip in Khau Pha, Sapa and Mai Chau. Accommodation will be multishare rooms, with simple bedding and shared bathroom facilities. While accommodation is simple, the warm welcome and home-cooked meals will be comforting after a day of exercise
  • Kayak around secluded islands in Lan Ha Bay to explore this world renowned scenery. While this bay is generally sheltered, this is sea kayaking so you will need to be confident on and in water for this activity

Having never done an organised tour, or ventured overseas solo, I can’t recommend this adventurous trip around Vietnam enough. The combination of hiking, cycling and kayaking, with a mix of home stays and hotels is the perfect balance to see the varied terrains and culture Vietnam has to offer, all whilst keeping fit. A sensory explosion and friendships made for life with a bunch of like minded individuals. Absolutely awesome

This trip was so much fun. The heat was challenging but the whole group (aged 15 to early 50’s) managed the physical activities. We were well looked after throughout. The home stays were a unique experience and really enjoyable. Book it!

The trip was amazing, have fun first and don’t worry about the excessive there are heaps of facilities and no real danger. In summer this trip is very hot but you will get accustomed to it. Bring shorts and r shirts.

As a solo female traveller I would thoroughly recommend a tour with Intrepid. The small group sizes allow you to get to know and build relationships with everyone on tour. By the end of our 11 day trip in Vietnam we had a really tight knit group. I had an amazing time seeing the culture, food and scenes in a good contrast of both city and village life.

This was my second adventure with Intrepid and it did not disappoint at all! The itinerary was perfect. Vietnam is a breathtaking country in so many ways. The physical rating was accurate. The group did work hard to hike, bike and kayak. Please note that Vietnam is extremely hot and humid in July. The Intrepid team made sure that we took frequent breaks and were well hydrated during our physical activities. Son is an absolutely fantastic leader. His experience, kindness and intuition greatly contributed to the vibe and overall enjoyment of this trip. I highly recommend!
