This trip is for the 18 to 29 year olds

You could travel for a lifetime in China and there would still be more to explore, taste and experience… but this 12-day tour does a pretty good job of narrowing it down to the essentials. That means big hitters like the Great Wall, the Terracotta Warriors and baby pandas. But it also means sipping tea in People’s Park, tasting street food in Xi’an and chilling in the misty countryside of Yangshuo. Ni hao baby!

Why you'll love this trip
  • Eat your way through China from Beijing duck to Sichuan pepper, and challenge yourself with authentic local delicacies like silk worms, spicy rabbit head and beer fish.
  • Walk the walk on the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall, watching the stones snake as far as the eye can see. If you’d like, you can even toboggan back down!
  • Join your locally-based guide to see highlights like the Terracotta Warriors in Xi'an, be wowed by the Temple Street night markets in Hong Kong and chill out sipping tea with residents in People’s Park in Chengdu.
  • Watch rolly polly baby pandas playing, munching bamboo and generally doing their cute ol' thing at the Panda Breeding Centre.
  • Take a scenic cycling tour through farms and villages in Yangshuo’s karst-dotted countryside. Every turn in the road brings you to another postcard-perfect spot before riding to Moon Hill and taking a short hike that leads to panoramic views of the area.

Is this trip right for you?
  • This trip packs a lot into a short amount of time, with very little time spent in our starting and finishing cities. We highly recommend allocating extra time in Beijing and Hong Kong before and after your trip if you want to explore them in depth.
  • Travelling like a local isn’t always glamourous. The overnight train travel included on this trip is in ‘hard sleeper’ class, meaning carriages are sectioned off with six-sleepers per compartment in tiers of three. It’s not luxury, but it’s efficient and a way to spend time with local travellers. If you would prefer more comfort, upgrades to ‘soft sleeper’ (2 tier/4 berth compartments with lockable doors) can be booked (subject to availability) through your agent.

Awesome trip! This tour involves a lot of walking and some long train trips, including an overnight sleeper train that was quite the experience. It was very cold at this time of year but if you dress appropriately, you’ll have a great time! Our tour guide Jay was really friendly, funny and very informative. He was always recommending places to visit, markets to explore and local foods to try. He was also incredibly helpful when it came to transport to and from tourist locations. He was able to cater to our group by organising private transport as often as he could, rather than have us take public transport which didn’t always work in our favour. Our group highly appreciated all the effort he went to so that we could get the most of each day. Note: Try packing a little lighter or taking a smaller suitcase for your travels as you will need to walk your luggage between accommodations and train stations often, including up and down stairs. Some of us on the tour had larger bags and regretted having to drag them around everywhere. Thank you Jay for an awesome tour and we hope you had a great New Year! Adam and Cleone

Amazing trip if you would like to explore china in a shorter period of time! a lot of sightseeing and great cities are included in this trip. Just make sure to check the weather as the temperature can vary in different places

This tour is great in terms of accommodation (bit basic but it's China), travel (hard sleeper isn't that bad) and the inclusions (value for money on a budget tour) but sadly for everything else it is just ok. If you want a tour where you know exactly what you want to do and where you want to go in your free time and only need the tour to get from A-B then this is the tour for you, if you want something a bit more I would look elsewhere.
