See orangutans swinging through the rainforest treetops at a sanctuary in Semenggoh and venture into the vast Mulu cave systems. Why you'll love this trip
  • See wild orangutans at the Semenggoh sanctuary and look for proboscis monkeys in Bako National Park. One of the last truly wild places on earth, Borneo offers rare treats for nature lovers.
  • Explore labyrinthian cave systems, some of the largest in the world, and watch as millions of bats emerge from their depths at sunset, darkening the sky like a plume of black smoke.
  • Follow in the infamous footsteps of tribal warriors on a trek through wild, dense jungle on the Headhunter’s Trail – rich with wildlife like hornbills and monkeys.
  • Unwind after days spent trekking through jungle with a stay on tranquil Labuan Island. Relax with a well-earned beer or cocktail at your beach resort accommodation.
  • Kick back in Kuching and maybe try a bowl of the local laksa – Anthony Boudain called it 'the breakfast of the Gods' – and explore the neighbourhoods full of Chinese and Malay influences.

Is this trip right for you?
  • It’s best to pack light for this trip. There is a strict 20 kg (checked in baggage) and 7 kg (hand luggage) maximum luggage limit on the included internal flights. Excess luggage will incur extra fees to the traveller.
  • A small to medium size day backpack is required for the time in Gunong Mulu National Park and on the Headhunter’s Trail. Your main pack will be forwarded on, so there will be days when you don’t have access to it. Pack light and smart.
  • When staying in the National Park, accommodation is multishare and can be basic. The unqiue atmosphere and wonderful location more than make up for this though.
  • This trip includes a number of wonderful long walks through forest and jungle, especially the 12 km Headhunter’s Trail, so a good level of fitness is required.
  • This trip is part of a longer itinerary. You might be joining travellers who have already spent some time together. If you have more time to explore, you might like to check out Best of Borneo.

If you want a trip that has a good mix of challenge and luxury this is it. It was a busy hands on tour that appealed to my nature to explore as much as possible while you can. I loved the rainforests and caves and the orangutans as well as the canopy walk. The food was great everywhere we went.

What a trip, lead by an outstanding guide Nik. Great to see and feel the Rainforest and so awesome to see the commitment of the local people to share and preserve their world heritage park.

We were looking for a busy, physical adventure with our family consisting of two adult children. There was an excellent balance of wild life, sights, trails, museums, swing bridges, canopy walks, getting up close with the orangutans, flavourful food, iced beverages, shopping, street art, music, wild weather, friendly people. Borneo and the Wild Sarawak tour were fantastic!
