Why you'll love this trip
  • Experience a once-in-a-lifetime chance to camp at the Black Mambas headquaters, the world's first all-female anti-poaching unit. Join them for a bush walk to search for snares and hear their inspiring stories around the campfire in the evening.
  • Enjoy a different perspectives for game viewing with a jeep safari in Kruger National Park, a guided hippo boat cruise on St Lucia Estuary, and a walking safari in Hlane Royal National Park.
  • Visit Cape Town's Boulder's Beach to watch the resident African Penguins waddle across the sandy shore that's framed by ancient granite boulders.
  • Rise early with your small group to watch wild meerkats wake and warm in the morning sun, before continuing south to Cape Town – South Africa’s third-oldest town.
  • Search for gentle giants on a game drive through Addo Elephant National Park.

Is this trip right for you?
  • This is an overland trip. That means you’ll be travelling with a group in a purpose-built vehicle, visiting remote communities, setting up your own tent, occasionally roughing it in the bush with no facilities, and getting the best possible views of the Garden Route. While the trucks don’t have air conditioning, they do have sliding windows, which let in the breeze and make it even easier to take spectacular snaps of the local wildlife. The drive days can be long, but it’s as much about the journey as the destination, and half the fun is the camaraderie. For more info on this style of travel, see our Africa overland page: https://www.intrepidtravel.com/africa/overland
  • For your accommodation and campsites on your adventure, facilities do vary, and wi-fi is not always available. Accommodation upgrades are often available.
  • As the early bird catches the worm, the early camper sights the animals. There will be many early starts either to make use of optimal safari times or to beat the morning traffic on long travel days.

The trip was so special. We saw a lot of animals I didn't expect. Sometimes we had some discussions with the leaders. The places are beautiful and I can recommend it for anyone who loves camping and nature.

Too expensive for what is included, nothing in 4*4 and the truck is not suitable for that. Addo and kruger is too short. Tents and truck full of water with the rain, all windows and tents not sealed, not tested. Poor materials and design. Great staff and travellers, good itinerary.

You will not be disappointed with the stunning scenery along the east coast, from high up in the Darkensberg mountains and Lesotho to sea level at Cape Vidal and Cintsa. Kruger and Hlane National Parks were both amazing for different reasons - Kruger for its vastness and Hlane for being closer to the rhinos and hippos. If you are lucky to have Irvin (Ivan) Tshuma as a cook on your trip, you are in for a treat.

A truly amazing adventure combining the very best nature and cultural experiences that these three Southern African nations have to offer. Christian, Patrick and Somkhele welcomed us like family and it truly made the experience all the better for it.

An incredible trip. A whirlwind adventure with early mornings, a lot of laughs, and many unforgettable stops along the way. Walking with rhinos in ESwatini, hanging out on the beach at Chinsta, and summiting Sentinel Peak were some stand out days. A huge thank you to Christian, Somkhele, and Patrick!
