Due to the high altitude of many of places we visit, the air is thinner and some people can suffer altitude sickness. Some people aren’t affected at all, but if you are, be sure to drink plenty of water and don’t push yourself too hard. If possible, arrive a few days early to allow yourself time to acclimatise. Please see the ‘Health’ section of the trip notes for more important information about altitude sickness.

On June 30th Peruvian authorities released a new list of regulations for visiting Machu Picchu, which came into effect from July 1st. The main points impacting our visits are:
1. There is now a time limit to visit the citadel. Morning visitors must exit the site by 12pm and afternoon visitors by 4.30pm
2. Visitors must complete a designated circuit, in one direction only. Exiting and re-entering the site is not permitted and, upon completion, visitor must exit the site. There is no allowance for personal exploration of the site any longer.
Overall we support these changes as they help preserve this invaluable archaeological site. While this somehow restricts the amount of time we are now allowed to spend in Machu Picchu, we’ll do all possible to maximise your time there and make sure you have the best possible experience.

This is an excellent tour due to its fantastic itinerary! Peru is a beautiful country with a fascinating history and you really to get to see the best of it on this trip. Take the plunge and do everything available - the Nazca lines plane trip is stomach churning but once in a lifetime. You MUST do the one-day hike option especially if like me you don't have it in you to do the four day traditional hike. The views are beyond imagination and photographs will never do it justice but the memories of the rush you get upon reaching the Sun Gate will last a lifetime. Taquile Island is a hidden wonder and I really can't say enough nice things about the Peruvian people, the kindest, proudest most welcoming people I have ever met and my tour guide Norma was an excellent example of this!

The Intrepid tour, Majestic Peru, with our tour leader, Ali-Jei, was an excellent experience, although we probably did not fully appreciate how tired we would be with many early starts and long days of bus travel. As non-Spanish speakers it was particularly helpful to have this aspect of travelling facilitated. We had been a little nervous about travelling to South America, but Intrepid made it a very enjoyable experience and I would highly recommend them.
