From Chennai to Kovalam, see the best of evocative South India
Travel to India and embark on this classic southern Indian journey from Chennai to Kovalam through Kerala. Discover a thousand shades of green, indulge in some of the continent’s freshest food, and share smiles with the friendly local people in this lush, tropical part of the country. Experience the culture, religion and history of this region and discover its small rural towns, fishing villages and scented spice plantations. Follow a road less travelled through south India without sacrificing too many creature comforts.
Heavy monsoon rains in southern India during August have resulted in severe flooding and devastation across the state of Kerala. An estimated 400 people have died and more than 1 million people have been displaced. Due to the ongoing safety risks of travelling in the region, we are unable to visit Kochi, Periyar, Munnar, Alleppey, Kumarakom and Trivandrum until further notice. The following departures will be running on an alternate itinerary:
10th September - HHKS180910
Affected travellers should contact their booking agents for more information.
Explore one of the most biodiverse parts of the world, the jungles clad Western Ghats of South India, full of waterfalls, tea plantations, and spice markets
With its idyllic lifestyle and contemporary feel, Pondicherry is a beautiful seaside town to explore
Learn about the man who dedicated his life to the independence of India at The National Gandhi Museum
Track footprints in search of wild animals in the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary
Ferry-hop between the islands around Kochi to discover palaces, temples and European influenced architecture at every turn
Chill out in the calm Kerala Backwaters at our resort in Kumarakom
Finish up with a beach break and enjoy the lap of the waves in Kovalam
We’ll be visiting multiple temples during the trip so it’s important to wear appropriate clothing that covers the arms, legs and shoulders.
Southern India can get very hot during the summer so remember to bring lots of water and a variety of clothing. Wearing light, loose layers is one of the best ways to tackle the heat.
As we'll be walking through varying terrain in national parks and villages, comfortable walking shoes are essential. Leech socks will be provided for the Periyar nature walk.
This itinerary is valid for departures from 01 January 2018 to 31 December 2018. View the itinerary for departures between 01 January 2019 - 31 December 2019

The trip was exceptionally well organised and with the small group of travelers (max 12) always felt friendly and great fun. I look forward to another trip with this organisation again.
