The traffic in Lima may seem a little chaotic at first. Rest assured you have a sensible, defensive driver who values safety over saving time.
Cuzco is located at 3,450 metres above sea level, so it's important to be patient as your body adjusts. See the 'Health' section for information on altitude sickness.
Tradition runs deep in beautiful old Cuzco, so a little homework will put you in good stead. Ask your leader about photography etiquette, and remember to order 'Cerveza helada' for a beer that's cold!
The Amazon Jungle can be very hot and humid, so it's important to drink plenty of water and wear light cotton clothing. Make sure you also bring tropical-strength insect repellant.
The weather can be unpredictable in the Andes. Be sure to bring warm clothes and prepare for all elements.

We felt the balance of this trip was good, we were not rushed or felt that we spent too long in any specific place. The guide (Lucho/Luis) was unbelievably knowledgeable and approachable. He really made our trip!

Travelling in Peru is challenging. I would recommend any Australian family who cannot speak Spanish should travel with Intrepid. Intrepid provides a local guide who will ensure travellers get transportation to the must see sites, stay at the safest hotels and use restaurants that serve healthy food. Without local knowledge getting the right transport to places, or finding a comfortable hotel becomes a hassle. Our Intrepid Guide, Alejandrina Vega, was outstanding for the entire trip: and made sure everyone in the group saw the best parts of Peru, ate at the healthiest restaurants and looked after us when we suffered from Altitude sickness. She really loves Peru, and was proud to show us the best parts of her great country. I believe the Intrepid family trip to Peru is great value for money considering you visit Lima, the Amazon, Cusco, Sacred Valley, Machu Picchu and much more.
