The weather in India varies from region to region, but it’s generally safe to say that December to February sees dry, cooler weather before the heat intensifies from March to May. June, July and August are the monsoon months, though the amount of rain differs across the country, while October, September and November see rainfall ease once more.
Weather by location
Darjeeling
Darjeeling is located at 6,699ft in the foothills of the Indian Himalaya. The average temperature ranges from 43°F in January to 64°F in July, with the monsoonal rains falling from June–September.
Most people prefer to travel to Darjeeling during the colder months from October to December but April to June is also a popular time to visit as the weather is quite mild and allows you to soak up as much of this region's beautiful natural landscape.

Most travellers opt to visit Delhi in the shoulder seasons from March to May and from September to November to avoid the extreme cold of Winter and the scorching temperatures of summer. Air pollution is also a concern in Delhi, especially in the winter; however, summer is also starting to see unhealthy levels of air quality so keep that in mind when booking your trip.

While summer is the most popular time to travel to most countries around the world, winter is actually the best time to visit this coastal destination as humidity levels are low, temperatures are moderate, weather conditions are sunny and chances of rainfall are practically nonexistent.

Mumbai
Mumbai is hot all year, with the temperature hitting 86°F even in the middle of winter. The average temperature ranges from 63°F in January to 91°F in May, though it can get much hotter than this. The monsoonal rains are intense from June through until early October, and this period sees minimal sunshine too, though travelers can expect sunny skies from November until May.
However, with the beginning of the monsoon season, humidity levels spike, making it hard to enjoy the city's beautiful architecture and vibrant markets. If you want to avoid as much of the heat and humidity as possible, try traveling to Mumbai in winter or during shoulder seasons.

The winter sees cool nights and warm pleasant days, with the heat intensifying from late March onwards and becoming quite unbearable at its peak in May and June.
Temperatures can even be as high as 90°F in September and October so winter is often considered the best time to travel the desert state of Rajasthan - just bring plenty of warmer clothing (think jackets/scarves and thermals) for those chilly nights.
