This was my first intrepid holiday, and I will not be my last. Our guide Lin was top notch, friendly, knowledgeable, flexible, helpful and patient. We were really lucky with a fantastic mixed group of couples and solo travellers from 30>70 yr old, from 6 different countries. It's hard to pick one single highlight, but Bagan and the temples (and highly recommend the hot air baloon trip), the community lodge experience, and hiking in Kalaw in a downpour. Our tour was over Christmas and NY, and Lin our guide arranged for a really special dinner on a sandback after our sunset cruise. The whole trip was amazing. My personal feedback for the itinarery - would be to have an extra night at the community lodge, potentially skip Mandalay and have another night in Kalaw. On my free day in Bagan I hired a bike again with a fellow traveller and we explored the temples more on our own. A large number of the group went to Mount Popo, their feedback of that excursion was not great - with a 2.5 hours there and back in a coach. I really would recommend that free day exploring the temples on bike or horse and cart. Overall I give the trip 10/10! and our guide 11/10 - thank you Lin

If you bring in US$, it MUST be pristine. No tears or marks of any kind, or it won't be changed. You get a better rate for higher bills. Better still, you can get any kyat out of ATMs almost anywhere. Do the balloon ride in Bagan. MUST DO. Bring warm clothes for Northern Myanmar in January!
