What to wear in Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka is warm. Sri Lanka is very warm. Sri Lanka will have you sweating, unless you’re up visiting the tea plantations in the hills, so light, breathable clothing is essential. We recommend avoiding short shorts or anything too revealing in the cities and towns, though the tourist streets near the beaches are less conservative.

It tends to rain quite a bit in Sri Lanka, even outside of the monsoon seasons, so be sure to pack a raincoat or poncho for the inevitable downpours. The evening breeze can be a little cool sometimes, so a light jumper or sweatshirt will be useful too. A shawl, or something to cover your shoulders, is also a good idea if you plan on visiting temples or other religious sites.
