This trip travels on overnight hard sleeper trains on two parts of the journey (Chengdu-Xi'an and Xi'an-Beijing). Train travel in China may not be entirely luxurious, but it's certainly one of the best ways to come face-to-face with the country and its people. It's the main form of transport for locals, so take the chance to interact.
An optional upgrade to a soft sleeper berth (4 travellers per compartment with a lockable door) may be available at additional cost at the time of booking.

Our China Real Food Adventure trips score an average of 4.5 out of 5 based on 16 reviews in the last year.
This trip was a great introduction to China. Along with the main highlights in Beijing, Xi'an, and Shanghai, it also included a start in Chengdu and Sichuan overall, which was my main reason for selecting it. The Real Food adventure element of the tour turned out to be unexpected benefit of this tour as I learned so much more about China from all of the experiences with it's food whether it was a cooking class with locals or trying a hole in the restaurant somewhere for a real local experience.

Amazing trip - led by a fantastic guide through a fantastic itinerary . The lunches prepared by local families were some of the best food and experiences I had on the whole trip. It packs a lot in in a short space of time but doesn't feel too rushed. Highly recommended!
