wedding plans to help others

eibhlin and samWe are frequently humbled by the wonderful ideas that Intrepid travellers come up with to help others, even when they are in the midst of planning their own wedding! A few years ago, a young English lady, Eibhlin, travelled with Intrepid. More recently, in preparing to marry her fiancee Sam, she thought that as their honeymoon was a holiday in Tanzania, perhaps they could share their good fortune with some less advantaged Tanzanians.

Eibhlin writes: “After planning the date, the venue, the dress, the flowers, the cake, the best man, the bridesmaids, the ushers, the food, the invitations, the rings, the wine, the ceremony, the band, the music, the buffet, the speeches, the seating plan and the honeymoon, we just had one thing left to plan: the dreaded wedding list.”

“Having got a little carried away with buying new home wares when we moved flat last year, we’re probably doing OK for cups, plates and cutlery right now. So, after a week of Sam waking up in cold sweats from nightmares of being forced around a department store with a barcode scanner on a Saturday afternoon with no way of finding out how his favourite football team were doing, we had a think. Perhaps we could just skip all this carry-on and find a good way to help others.”

Eibhlin and Sam decided they’d like to help orphaned or street children in Tanzania through the Amani Children’s Home. They contacted the Intrepid Foundation and we have set up a special web page for them, through which their friends and family can send their gift.

It’s win-win all round! These funds will be used towards helping educate and care for the children at Amani, Eibhlin has an afternoon to herself while Sam follows the football and they don’t end up with unnecessary excess stuff.

If you would like to make a difference in your holiday destination, we can help. Donations through The Intrepid Foundation, for any of our fabulous beneficiary projects, will be matched by Intrepid Travel*.

* Up to AU$5,000 (or equivalent) per donor and a total of AU$400,000 for all donors in each financial year.
