Big personalities in July photo competition

friendly local man in Uganda

Getting up close and mixing it with the locals is one of the best things about travel. And you feel even more fortunate if you’ve been able to capture those precious encounters on camera and commit to the memory card!

The first month of the 2015 Intrepid Photography Competition has kicked off with the theme ‘Local faces’ and tell us if you don’t think these inspiring shots from our finalists have tapped into the real spirit of travel and humanity.

From toothy grins to larger-than-life personalities, it’s been a real thrill to see all your fantastic entries from around the globe. A big high-five to everyone who entered and you sure know how to put our judges through their paces.

Photography is such a subjective beast, but eventually after much debate and deliberation our judging panel settled on one July winner.

Congratulations Matt Dunne, you nailed it! That face, the life in those eyes, the generosity in that grin and the warmth in that special Ugandan welcome. A monthly prize pack is on its way to you, complete with travel goodies from Merrell, Lonely Planet and Kathmandu that are valued at an impressive AU$970.

Think you could have a shot at taking a winning photo? The August theme is ‘Australia and New Zealand’ so show us how the Antipodes can pack a punch and get involved in the Intrepid photo comp this month. Because who knows – your photo could see you and a friend travelling in an Intrepid destination of your choice in 12 month’s time. Happy snapping.
