Amazing Angkor Wat

cambodia angkor watBetween the 9th and 13th centuries the Khmer Empire commissioned the construction of a magnificent temple site. Perfectly balanced in symmetry and composition, these wonderful temples of Cambodia continue to astound, as Intrepid’s Danielle Watts experienced…

“The alarm sounds while it’s still dark. A small but much-needed breakfast is served and we’re off on an adventure to see one of the most spectacular sights. We are in Siem Reap, the previous capital of Cambodia, to see sunrise over an ancient wonder of the world, Angkor Wat.

The sheer size and magnitude of the ancient ruins is hard to get your head around. You can’t help but try and cast your mind back to that era and imagine just how long and how difficult a process it would be to erect these beautiful monuments.

We wait patiently as the gradual change from virtual darkness to brilliant light begins. Camera lenses and shutters start going off like buzzing insects, as just at that moment the sun breaks through over the beautiful ancient towers and creates a breathtaking mirror image in the pools in front. The wonderful picture lasts only a few minutes, but the images in my photo album and my mind will stay with me forever!”
