Why you'll love this trip
  • Take an active adventure through Central Europe, cycling leafy paths from the bohemian centre of Prague to the classical vibe of Vienna.
  • Ride alongside the mighty Danube River downstream, passing by romantic riverside castles, picturesque villages and lowland forests surrounding the banks.
  • Take the opportunity to head on an optional brewery tour at the original home of Budweiser: Ceske Budejovice.
  • Marvel at the spires and dome of Melk Abbey, perched on a rocky outcrop high above the waters of the Danube.
  • The perfect mix of cosmopolitan cities, picture postcard towns and traffic-free cycling paths await, with local knowledge to get the best out of each European destination.
  • By travelling on this trip, you’ll directly support our Intrepid Foundation partner, World Bicycle Relief. Donations provide school kids, health workers, and farmers in far-out areas with bicycles that provide access to education, healthcare, and income.

Is this trip right for you?
  • Just as a heads up before you book: this trip is new to our range this year. And while we have thoroughly researched every detail of the logistics, new destinations can sometimes throw us some unexpected surprises. More often than not, it’ll be a great surprise. But every now and again there might be a hiccup. We like to think that’s what puts the ‘adventure’ in ‘adventure travel’.
  • To complete this trip it is important that you are both confident and competent in riding a bicycle.
  • On this trip we have a single leader that rides with the group, and another that drives the support vehicle (acting as a back marker where needed). Where the vehicle cannot travel directly with the cyclists (e.g. a cyclists-only path) your leader will assign a person from the group to act as a back marker.
  • As our riding is done mostly on sealed roads and – along the Danube River – dedicated bike paths with the occasional gravel section, there are no technical cycling skills required.
  • There’s the possibility of a few hiccups along the way – a puncture here and there maybe – but there’s no doubt this is an incredibly rewarding adventure.
  • As there are potholes and cobblestones in many European cities, it's recommended that you leave any wheelie bags/cases at home and bring a backpack instead. As this is an eight-day trip, a large backpack should be enough to carry all of your belongings.
  • As accommodation on this trip is twin-share, solo travellers will share a room with other travellers of the same gender. Please note that a single supplement is available on this trip. Space is at a premium in Europe and your hotel is no exception. Rooms are often small, but usually the central location makes up for that. For those travelling as a duo, hotels in Europe often don't have double beds, but rather two single beds that can be pushed together. In some cases, bathroom facilities will be shared rather than ensuite.

We went on our first trip with Intrepid, biking from Prague to Vienna. We had an awesome time. We especially liked our leader and driver who managed to solve any problems we ran into with patience and creativity. In addition to giving us a great tour of Prague, we cycled to many towns and beautiful countryside in southern Bohemia and managed to fit in swimming in a lake and hiking to a castle ruin. Loved learning the history of this part of the world and enjoying the companionship of a great group of people- we got along great. Accommodations were clean and comfortable and our leader always had a plethora of suggestions of restaurants or things to do and explore when we had free time. Truly a wonderful trip.

Cycle Prague to Vienna is an excellent trip. I thoroughly recommend it. Sasa and Andro make a wonderful, friendly, responsive and efficient team. Sasa modified the route to improve the cycle a few times to give more variety, which was great. Intrepid recommends some preparation exercise for this trip. Do it; you will get more out of the trip if you do. At times there is an opportunity for some fast riding - much appreciated by this 70 year old woman on a manual bike. If you don’t like steep hills, there is the option of going in the van. Ideally all bikes would have gravel tyres instead of a mixture of gravel and knobbly mountain bike tyre (which are harder work on tarmac). My only complaint was that the trip notes were not updated about the joining hotel; a back office issue. Also it would be better to have female frame bikes for older shorter women. Thanks Sasa and Andro - I would love to go on another cycling trip with you two.

This was a really enjoyable trip, with daily rides that were very achievable. Sasa and Andro were fantastic, both were very approachable and knowledgeable. Get on your bike and do this trip!

To quote Dickens's "Tale of Two Cities," this tour " was the best of times; it was the worst of times." Our leaders, Tomi and Andro were phenomenol -10/10. The cycling routes, the accommodations, the overall experience were all amazing. On the other hand, the experience with admin leading up to the tour was abysmal. Responses to my questions took days and weeks to arrive; info from both Tour Radar and Intrepid Travel -- when I got answers-- was often wrong or conflicting; several of us were sent to the wrong meet-up hotel, for instance. I was given different pricing for an add on, for another example. It took 3 messages to get one answer. Before the trip started I was frustrated and angry given the poor or absent prep help. Fortunately the tour itself was excellent. Tomi and Andro took every opportunity to ensure our safety and, happiness. I was very impressed with their level of service and attention to detail. They coordinated riding and van support very well, stayed positive and encouraging throughout, remembered each person's requests and accommodated individual needs perfectly. Truly, they were top notch in every way. I ended up loving the tour even more than I anticipated due to Tomi and Andro. I would love to do other trips with Tomi, but I would not deal with the companies again until they clean up their poor service
