Worried about the weather? Stress less: Mexico has all of the ingredients for a perfect holiday, and in our humble (and hungry) opinion, all weather is taco weather. Mexico City is located on the Mexican Plateau, an area of high elevation extending from the central to northern parts of the country, which means that temperatures are pleasant year-round, but nights can be chilly. The Riviera Maya region is ideal for sunny beach weather but prepare for occasional showers during the rainy season.

Weather in Mexico City

Although technically located in the tropics, Mexico City sits at an altitude of 2240 metres, keeping temperatures pleasant year-round. Evenings tend to be cooler, especially in the winter when temps can get close to freezing.

The rainy season in Mexico City spans from May to September, with July being the wettest month. You can expect afternoon showers, and while the rain is typically brief, it can be intense, with periods of thunder and even hail. Even with a downpour in the forecast, the sun still shines most days.

Weather in Cancun

The Riviera Maya, which includes some of Mexico's most popular beach destinations like Cancun, Playa del Carmen and Tulum, has a tropical climate with pretty minimal changes in weather from season to season. Cancun has an average yearly temperature of 26°C that can hit 35°C in the height of summer.

The wet season in Cancun is between May and October, with slightly warmer, more humid weather, and the dry season lasts from November to April. Rain showers aren't unusual in this part of the country, but it's rare to have a total washout on your trip. Often, you can expect an afternoon shower followed by a glorious sunset.
