Adventure through the heart of North India and Rajasthan

Rose-hued cities, time-worn desert forts and holy rivers – North India is the subcontintent’s showpiece, a place where ancient ruins punctuate peaceful countryside and everyday life is a riot of color and noise. Spiritual, yet never afraid to entertain – the sites of North India are as alive as a crowded laneway, as vast as the Thar Desert sands, as humbling as a Varanesi dawn and as intricate as the Amber Fort. So give your senses a well-earned kick and delve into a North Indian adventure that ticks all the boxes.

Itinerary

The labyrinthine streets and lively markets of Old Delhi are a perfect introduction to India. Wonder at the tall brick minaret of Qutub Minar and visit Delhi's oldest mosque, Jama Masjid – an architectural delight that can hold 25,000 people.
Discover India's spiritual heart. Take a boat on the Ganges, ramble along the ghats and attend a sunset-candle flower ceremony.
Swap the chaotic pace of the city for the relaxed pace of river life on a sailing trip along the holy River Ganges. Pass by rural village communities by day and by night, sleep under the stars with bellies full of traditional vegetarian fare.
Hop into a jeep and safari through the wilds of the Bandhavgarh National Park. Tigers live here in relative abundance so keep a look out for these magnificent creatures. At night, sleep soundly in a jungle resort.
The intricate carvings of the exquisite temples of Khajuraho celebrate Hindu legends, epic battles and the famed Kama Sutra. Take time to explore the temples and surrounding countryside. In the evening, visit a local Indian family and enjoy a home-cooked meal.
Enjoy a guided walk around the temples and palaces that dot the picturesque Orchha countryside. See the stunning Orchha Palace, and experience an evening puja ceremony at the Ram Raja Temple. Visit a community-run papermaking plant where local tribeswomen craft paper from recycled clothing and wood pulp.
Soak up the small-town charm of relatively tourist-free Chanderi. Explore ancient rock paintings, Jain temples and peaceful mosques before sitting down to a tasty dinner with a local family.
Take a train to Agra and join a motorised rickshaw tour of the town. Visit the fascinating Red Fort, learning of its history and admiring its architecture. Then experience India's most famous building, the Taj Mahal, and marvel at its beauty that is more marvellous than any picture can depict.
Take a rickshaw ride through the wetlands and forests of this serene bird sanctuary, a rare respite from the buzz of urban India.
Drop by the majestic Amber Fort and discover the Hawa Mahal, which gleams at dusk amid the frenzy of the bazaar. Perhaps end this day with a dazzling Bollywood film.
Explore the ornate havelis that date back to the days of the great camel caravans that travelled between China and the Middle East.
Journey into the Thar Desert to Bikaner. See the hulking Junagargh Fort, built during the 16th century, and the Karni Mata rat temple. Enjoy an evening of traditional Rajasthani food, music and dance.
The golden ornately carved stone houses of Jaisalmer make for spectacular viewing as the sun rises and sets. Get a taste of Rajasthani nomadic life on an overnight camel safari.
Travel to the ancient Thar Desert Town of Osiyan, peppered with temples including Mahavira Temple and Sachiya Mata Temple.
Home to the colossal Mehrangarh Fort, Jodhpur also has one of the oldest and most interesting bazaars in India. Gain insight into the fascinating traditions of the rural Rajasthani tribespeople by opting to visit the peaceful, nature-loving Bishnoi communities.
Visit Agra's Red Fort and meet a local carpet maker before returning to Delhi.
