Itinerary

Namaste! Welcome to India. With the gleam of the modern and the beating heart of the ancient, Delhi is a city with a wealth of cultural, spiritual, artistic and culinary delights. This Bite-size Break kicks off at 3.30pm, when your guide meets you in the foyer of your hotel. Hop in a private car and head straight to the source of authentic Indian cooking secrets – the home of a local Delhi family in the Rohini area (approximately 1 hour). The perfect introduction to Indian lifestyle and food, be ready for incredible hospitality and plenty of delicious dishes as you embark on a home cooked Delhi experience. Join your hosts in the kitchen, lend a hand with dinner preparations, jot down some secret home recipes and join in conversation about day-to-day life in Delhi around the table. In keeping with local tradition, dishes will be vegetarian and eaten with your hands. At the end of the meal, there will be an opportunity to enjoy same masala chai. Please note, alcohol is not a traditional part of the Indian meal and won’t be served. Leave your hosts with a truly authentic insight into family life in Delhi, a full stomach and new friends. After saying your goodbyes, you will be dropped back to your hotel by private car.

Notes: If you have any issues with the pick-up today, please call the Intrepid office on +91 1145 006 400 during business hours (9.30am to 6pm) or after hours on +91 9999 916 229.
Maybe start the day with a piping hot chai before diving into the sights, sounds and smells of Old Delhi on a cultural adventure. Meet your guide at the hotel at 9am and head to a nearby Sikh temple to check out their impressive kitchens. Here you’ll enjoy a taste of the lunch that’s prepared for the many devotees who attend the temple every day. Then discover the sensory delights of the Old Town’s marketplace – the wonderful and fragrant Chandi Chowk. Meet a local spice trader to learn more about Indian food’s fundamental flavours. Spend more market time sampling food, bargaining with locals and winding through narrow alleyways, or get some history at India Gate and President House. Then maybe return to the hotel and rest up before the afternoon's activity. From the hotel at 4pm, kick off an evening Delhi Food Walk with a bit of local culture – pass through the city’s picturesque colleges and universities, and stop at an ancient Hanuman temple. The first food stop sees fresh local shawarma (kebab) being made, then it's on to an iconic neighbourhood eatery that’s popular with everyone, especially local students. Sample local favourites – momos (dumplings) and banta, a delicious lemon-based drink that’s ideal for hot Delhi weather. Continue through Kamla Market, emerge into a narrow alley full of delectable street-food stalls, and taste local specialties like paneer tikka, golgappas, bhelpuri, paav bhaji, and chuski. Yum! Wind through markets to finish off with some Indian dessert. Savour Delhi's best homemade ice cream – kulfi-falooda – then enter a sweet shop for fresh samosa, rabdi, gulab jamun, and sweet flavoured milk. Return to your hotel stuffed and sated!

Notes: Tastings may change subject to availability and season.
After this thorough introduction to Indian food, finish this Bite-size Break as an aficionado of Delhi’s best local delicacies, which you’ll be craving long after you leave this enigmatic city. Perhaps head to your new favourite chai tea or samosa vendor for a final morning pick me up, before exploring the rest of the city (or country) at your own pace.
