japan through the lens

japan by yuka suzukiTravellers on our first Japan Through The Lens photographic adventure returned with rave reviews and stirring images of spring blossoms, sumo wrestlers and sumptuous sushi feasts. Intrepid leader Yuka Suzuki travelled with camera in hand and enjoyed the chance to capture the real Japan with her group…

“We’ve seen and done so much in 2 weeks and the endless photo opportunities were fantastic! This trip was specially designed to let our group focus on Japan rather than feeling like they were under the tourist spotlight, and that’s exactly how it developed.

Our shutters constantly clicked on cute Maiko (geisha) in colourful kimonos walking through narrow alleys, beautiful cherry blossoms in Kyoto temples, Harajuku girls in gothic Lolita dress, sparkling Tokyo lights and of course formidable Sumo boys! The excitement and challenge continued at night when we all ventured out with tripods in hand to capture those spectacular after-dark shots.

Kerry Raftis was brilliant in sharing her professional photography tips and all of us gained so much by learning how to get the most from our camera, how to handle aperture and how to know what we did wrong. With the basics under our belts our images improved dramatically and with increased confidence we were soon taking photos of moving trucks with a blurred fish market background, speeding bullet trains, garden settings in dappled light and balanced photos framed like a pro!”
