Adventure’s afoot in 2024 with these brand-new walking and trekking trips

written by Danielle McDonald December 4, 2023

Intrepid’s newest walking and trekking trips go (quite literally) beyond the beaten track. Some visit areas that give back to local communities. Some offer a different perspective on well-known trails. And others even add a touch of comfort to the world of trekking.

Whether you’re summiting Northern Africa’s highest peak or traversing a restricted area in Nepal, these new trekking trips push the boundaries while being backed by the knowledge and support of Intrepid’s experienced leaders and guides.

1. Follow in the footsteps of Pilgrims in Spain

Take one of Europe’s most famous walks in stride on Intrepid’s new Camino del Norte adventure. Across 11 days, you’ll trek 190 km of the legendary Camino de Santiago to reach Santiago Cathedral and collect your Camino certificate. Get to know the Spanish countryside as you stop by traditional villages, monasteries and UNESCO-listed sights. This is one for the bucket list.

2. Summit North Africa’s highest peak over a long weekend

From winding your way through Marrakech’s mind-blowing medinas to winding your way up through the High Atlas Mountains, this five-day trip redefines a long weekend getaway. The new Mount Toubkal Long Weekend Trek has been designed to show you vastly different sides of Morocco in a short, but sweet amount of time. Swap your city sightseeing shoes for hiking boots to ascend into rural Amazigh villages and homestays on your way to Mount Toubkal’s summit.

3. Camp under the stars on a trek through Pakistan

The new ten-day Trek Pakistan’s Karakoram Mountains trip will put you smack bang in the middle of towering peaks of the Baltistan region. Across four days of trekking, you’ll access more remote places as you walk by day and camp by night. With expert guides, porters and a professional cooking team by your side, this trip goes off the beaten track without throwing you in the deep end.

4. Hit the Happy Valley trails in Morocco

On Trekking in Morocco: Happy Valley in High Atlas, you’ll get acquainted with rural villages and ancient ruins in the Central High Atlas Mountains. Rub shoulders with local people here as you tuck into tasty home-cooked meals and stay in traditional mountain gites on the trek from Aarous to Agouti in Happy Valley (one of Morocco’s best-kept secrets).

5. Take the road less travelled to one of the world’s highest peaks

Join Intrepid’s first trip to the world’s eighth-highest peak on the Manaslu Circuit Trek. In the name of conservation, this is a restricted area in Nepal, which means you can experience the untouched beauty of the Himalaya region without the crowds. Plus, you’ll veer even further off the usual track to mingle with the local people of Barkpak and support a region previously impacted by the 2015 Nepal earthquake.

6. Go wild in the USA

Intrepid has introduced 11 new walking and trekking trips in the USA. Not only do these itineraries take you to some of the most spectacular spots like Yellowstone and the Grand Canyon – but they do it with a touch of comfort. With Comfort trips, you can expect stepped-up accommodation, more included meals and more leader-led experiences. You’ll still be out in the wild but with a bit of added comfort – bliss.

7. Tick off the classic hikes of wild South America

Intrepid now has not one but three brand new hikes headed to South America’s remote wilderness of Patagonia. Get your boots ready because these trips will take you further than you’ve ever been. Looking for something that hits all of the best trails? Look no further than our new Classic Hikes of Patagonia trip. Or maybe you want to traverse Torres del Paine’s W Trek or the less explored O Circuit. Whatever takes your fancy, these trekking trips will get you there.
