The Intrepid Foundation

Our non-profit is on a mission to create positive change through the joy of travel, community and connection.

We know that Intrepid travellers like to travel differently – you travel with purpose and look for ways to give back to the places you go and communities you meet.

That same desire to give back and do more sparked the creation of The Intrepid Foundation in 2002. The foundation allows our travellers and wider travel community to support important causes around the world through our impact partners based in more than 30 countries.

How we're making a difference

Giving back globally

Since 2002, The Intrepid Foundation has raised over AUD 15.5 million and supported more than 160 communities around the world.

We operate in 100+ countries, so when it comes to choosing new foundation partners, we're backed by local know-how. Our Intrepid people on the ground identify where change is needed and carefully select partners in their local areas who are making it happen.

We cover the admin costs so that 100% of donations go directly to our partners, where it’s really needed. Plus, to double your impact, we dollar-match all post-trip donations.

Our positive impact

We currently have 45+ partners in 30+ countries. These partners are making a difference across four key focus areas:

Protecting the environment

We support conservation and work with partners who are restoring landscapes across the globe, helping to address the climate emergency and proactively educating people on how (and why) to care for our natural environment.

Taking a stand for wildlife

Intrepid was the first global travel company to ban elephant rides on its tours. Animal welfare is engrained in our ethos. Together with our partners, we protect and advocate for wildlife who cannot speak for themselves.

Addressing inequality

We believe everyone should be treated with equal respect, that's why we partner with organisations helping to restore economic and social equality. Our partners empower all people with education, job opportunities and financial support.

Empowering communities

There's great power in community. We support partners who help communities to understand and adopt life-changing development opportunities like organic agriculture, women's empowerment, youth development, and health.
