Do you need a visa for the Comoros Islands?Â
Yes, you'll need to obtain a tourist visa upon or before your arrival on the Comoros Islands if you're travelling from Australia, the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, and a country within Europe. If you're not travelling from one of these destinations, it's advised you contact your local African embassy to find out more information on whether you'll need to obtain a tourist visa.Â
Unlike many other countries, you don't need to worry about how long the approval process takes as your visa will be issued to you on arrival on the Comoros Islands. In fact, tourist visas generally only take a couple of minutes to be granted and once approve, they allow you to stay on the Comoros Islands for a period of up to 45 days but you must leave the country once those 45 days are up.
There aren't that many requirements in order for your tourist visa to be approved, however, your passport will need at least 6 months of validity on it from your intended arrival on the Comoros Islands and you will need to show proof that you plan on returning home within your allotted tourist visa time - a return plane ticket will suffice as evidence.Â
What documentation do you need to provide when applying for a tourist visa to the Comoros Islands?Â
The only documentation you'll need to provide when applying for a visa is proof of your departure (return flight ticket as previously mentioned), two passport-sized photos, and hotel booking confirmations or the address of a relative or friend you're staying with on the Comoros Islands. You may also need to show proof of your financial situation (such as bank statements) in order to show that you don't intend on working while you're on the islands.Â
How to apply for a visa to the Comoros IslandsÂ
Thankfully, obtaining a tourist visa for the Comoros Islands is incredibly simple and requires little effort. There are two ways to obtain a tourist visa - either by applying for one upon your arrival on the Comoros Islands (the more popular choice) or by visiting your local Comoros consulate or embassy. If you plan on obtaining a tourist visa upon arrival, the process will be as follows:Â
- Once you arrive at the airport on Grand Comore, you'll make your way to the immigration department where you'll be asked to fill out the tourist visa application. You'll also need to submit relevant documentation at this time.Â
- After filling out the application papers, you'll be asked if officials can take a digital scan of your face and for you to place both of your hands on a fingerprint scanner. This is standard immigration procedure and will only take a few minutes depending on wait times.Â
- Once you've undertaken the necessary steps, you'll be required to pay the tourist visa fee. This fee is only AUD$44 and can be paid by credit card or cash depending on your preferred method of payment.Â
- The only thing left to do is wait for your visa which should be granted within a couple of minutes.Â
