Do you need a visa to travel to Turkey?

Depending on where you’re from, you may need a visa to enter Turkey. Travellers from many countries including New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Japan, Norway, Sweden and Switzerland – don’t require a visa for stays of less than three months if the trip is for tourism or business purposes. Foreign nationals from countries including Australia, Canada, South Africa and the USA will need an e-visa. An e-visa allows you to stay in Turkey for up to 90 days within a 180-day period.

E-visas will be verified by passport control officers on their systems at ports of entry, but it's a good idea to keep a copy of your e-visa on your phone, tablet, or as a hard copy, just in case.

To see the complete list of countries that do and do not require a visa to travel to Turkey, please visit the official Turkish government website.

Visa and entry requirements can change anytime, so we recommend all travellers check with their local consulate or embassy as this information may change. You can apply for an e-visa online. After applying for an e-visa, you should allow at least two weeks before departure for it to be issued. To apply for an e-visa and enter Turkey, your passport must:

  • be valid for at least six months from the date of arrival

  • have at least one blank passport page for entry and exit stamps
