Monaco basks in all that’s good about the Mediterranean. Hot summers are tempered by cool sea breezes and winters rarely get too cold. Plus you can enjoy sparkling sunshine year round with an average of only 60 rain days.
Monaco holiday information
Set on a small, but hilly ribbon of coast in France, Monaco is Europe’s second smallest independent state (after the Vatican). Beautiful buildings and perfect streets clamber up the hillside and down along the coast in a natural amphitheatre - it’s as if Monaco’s natural beauty is on show. Italy is just a few kilometres away.
1. Putting It All On Red
Put on your best Bond-esque outfit and head to the Casino de Monte-Carlo. Order a martini, hover at the tables and rub shoulders with the jetset.
2. Play at Royalty
Monaco’s 13th-century palace has been home to the Grimaldis for seven centuries. In between peaking at the throne room and watching the changing of the guard, keep an eye out for one of the resident princes or princesses.
3. Shop the Golden Circle
Do a spot of (window) shopping in Monte Carlo’s Golden Circle. This is where the big brands live and you’ll be surrounded by Chanel, Louis Vuitton and shoppers who arrive by Ferrari.
4. Café de Paris
This is a café where even the toilets are worth a photo. Stop by for a café au lait and see how the other half live.
5. Jardin Exotique
Even if prickly pears and cacti aren’t your cup of tea, the million-dollar views from these exotic gardens are something to write home about. While there, head underground to explore Monaco’s prehistoric cave network.
