Journey through foothills, rice paddies and Hmong villages in Northern Vietnam.

The remote and rugged mountains of Vietnam's north-west are home to some of South-East Asia’s most beautiful scenery and fascinating people. Leaving the graceful boulevards of Hanoi behind, catch a train to Lao Cai before traversing the bumpy mountain roads to Sapa, Ha Giang and the lands near the Chinese border. Experience breathtaking mountain views and meet friendly local hill tribes along the way. If you want to get off-the-beaten-track in Vietnam, this is the trip for you.

  • Discover a myriad of Hanoi attractions
  • Explore the remote mountains while trekking in Sapa
  • Travel to historic Son La
  • Meet friendly H'mong tribes people
  • Trek to charming Cat Cat village

Begin exploring Hanoi with a stroll around the city’s lake, shaded boulevards and iconic Old Quarter. Displaying a unique mix of East Asian and Western French influences, the food, architecture and culture is best explored on foot. Be sure to refuel with some tasty street food – try fragrant pho or delicate rice paper rolls.
Head to the mountains and trek around the foothills of Sapa. Balance carefully while steadily crossing the rice terraces, walk past rolling tea plantations and meet some of the local minority people on their way to and from Sapa’s trade markets. Buy some local goods like dyed fabrics, fashioned from indigo or hemp plants, or hand made textiles before the tribal Cat Cat people welcome you to their village.
After a long bus journey north to the Ha Giang province, sink into a relaxed highland atmosphere – forests, terraced rice paddies and the undulating mountains of Heaven’s Gate serve as a beautiful backdrop. Then explore the markets and shop fronts, which almost seem as though they belong to an earlier bygone era.
Visit the Hmong villages in the area before heading to the Minh Tan Market and Royal Palace. In the afternoon, take a leisurely trek around the spectacular landscape and be sure to have a camera handy because the views are sure to impress.
Take a trip on a houseboat to see all that this natural wonder has on offer. Visit waterfalls, take a light walk on land or watch birds from the boat. This hidden gem is as tranquil as they come and one of the best spots in Vietnam to spend a relaxing few days.
Head back to Hanoi for the last day of adventure. Perhaps stop by KOTO, a restaurant that provides hospitality training for underprivileged street kids in their quest for a brighter future.
