Kick off this adventure in Hue, a treasure trove of temples, tombs and palaces from Vietnam's royal past. Glimpse of everyday Vietnamese life, taste traditional foods and meet local vendors on a tour of dynamic Dong Ba market. Explore the Imperial City within the imposing Citadel - many of Hue’s best sights are contained here, including the Forbidden Purple City. Stop for lunch in a nunnery and discuss the finer points of Buddhism with nuns. Pass lush rice paddies and traditional villages on a bus ride through picturesque countryside. Admire the seven tiers of Bao Quoc Pagoda, a sprawling temple complex that sits atop a hill overlooking the Perfume River, then unwind with a cruise along the magical river itself.
This morning is free to explore Hue. You will be picked up from your hotel between 1.00-1.30 pm by your experienced local motorbike driver. We recommend you take your swimwear today for our stop at the wild beach. Escape the hustle of Hue on a journey to Quang Dien, a peaceful village known for its beautiful architecture, stunning surrounds and friendly locals. On the way you can take in the sea air from the back of the bike, as you wind through quaint towns en route to the majestic Tam Giang Lagoon . First off, we’ll call in to a farming family to witness their traditional lifestyle. Roll up your sleeves to lend a hand with the garden tasks, from watering the vegetables to helping harvest crops. We’ll reward you with a taste of Hue’s most famous specialty snacks and honey tea. Our Hue motorbike tour continues to a so-called Ghost City, where hundreds of tombs have been built and beautifully decorated. Here you’ll learn its secrets and the beliefs and history of the local people. Back on our motorbikes, we continue this Hue tour to Quang Dien wild beach to relax on a white sandy beach next to the translucent water. This is a quiet escape from the crowds and a perfect place for an ocean dip. Before the sun sets, we’ll take you to Tam Giang Lagoon where a sampan is waiting to take you out for a fishing harvest. We’ll stop by a fish and prawn farm to help the fisherman haul up their catch ready to sell at market. Get a lesson in how to throw a fish net, then try your luck to catch a fish in the lagoon. After a day of farming and fishing, our day in the Hue countryside ends with fresh fruits and tea prepared by our local host as we bid farewell to the last rays of sunshine and ride back to our hotel in Hue.
Take to the streets and waterways on a unique boat and bike tour. Pass emerald rice paddies, snaking waterways and plenty of waving children while discovering some of the most beautiful landscapes in this region. On a small island in the middle of the Thu Bon River, settle in to watch the sun set over bobbing fishing boats while feasting on barbecued local specialities. With full bellies, return to Hoi An where this Vietnam Getaway ends.
Traverse scenic Hai Van Pass – a 21 km stretch of road that winds through spectacular mountains and buts up against the sparkling South China Sea – to reach Hoi An. Explore the ancient streets and buildings of World Heritage-listed Old Town before uncovering Vietnamese culinary secrets during a cooking class at a family-run restaurant. Hit the local market to stock up on fresh produce and cook up a storm back at the restaurant. End the day by feasting on the delicious creations.
