Arrive on Kerala’s beautiful west coast and soak up its easy-going atmosphere. Enjoy a walking tour through the spice-scented streets and colonial architecture of Fort Cochin. Spend a memorable evening cruising through the natural harbour, drifting past the colourful fishing boats into the night.
This morning we head to Thattekad, home of the first bird sanctuary in Kerala. The Thattekkad Bird Sanctuary has a rich and varied birdlife. Several species of birds, both forest birds as well as the water birds, visit the sanctuaries
Get ready for a long ride east into hill country and relax after a long scenic journey. The following day enjoy a gentle walk through Eravikulum National Park, looking out for local residents including macaque monkeys and sambar deer. For a change of scenery, wander through the local market browsing the mix of fresh fruit and spices, and perhaps stocking up on some souvenirs.
Head to this magnificent temple city fragranced with incense. Witness the traditional evening Pooja ceremony at the beautiful Sri Meenakshi temple during which Lord Shiva is ‘put to bed’ with his wife to an intriguing backdrop of ringing bells and chanting. The next day is set aside to take it easy by the pool or choose to do something a bit more active. Why not visit Trichy’s Rock Fort Temple and enjoy dramatic views across the city or roam the Old Town’s fascinating maze of alleyways.
Travel to one of southern India’s most popular wildlife centres. While the park is synonymous with elephants, families will enjoy the range of exotic birdlife and animals such as wild boar and otter who also reside here. Explore the jungle on easy treks into the bush, spend time at a nearby elephant camp and enjoy the opportunity of having lunch with a local family for a fascinating insight into the local lifestyle.
Board a houseboat for a leisurely two-day cruise through Kerala's northern backwaters. Pass paddy fields and glide through the peaceful lagoons and picturesque canals of this water wonderland on the way to Allepey.
End this magical adventure on the idyllic tropical coastline of Kovalam. Enjoy lazy days on the beach or take it easy by the pool. Why not gather the group together for a final dinner swapping favourite memories of this amazing family holiday.
