A leader's perspective...
The places you remember in life are the places that seduce you with their heart. They are the places you return to, again and again. Vietnam is such a place for me. It’s hard to sum up a land of such diverse pleasures in a few simple words. There is the dazzling chaos of the cities, the tranquillity of the countryside, the long, unspoilt beaches and misty hills. There are the locals working the fields with ox-drawn wagons and odd sights like pigs riding on the back of motorbikes. There are the spicy smells and seductive tastes of the delicious cuisine and the hot, sweet coffee. Most of all it is the people - it is always a joy to see their smiles of welcome.

Losing pounds in Hoi An
"You're looking fat" isn’t the most tasteful way to be greeted even if it is true.
Na, 'my' tailor is an honest and hard-working woman. She works 12 hours a day 362 days a year (her three days off are for the annual Tet holiday). Her shop is within the labyrinth of stalls in the tailors market in Hoi An, Vietnam. Here, she and her band of petite seamstresses create any clothes in any style in any colour with any fabric.
Na has kept my measurements since our first meeting 5 years ago. She delights in showing me how the numbers increase each visit. But, she’ll say "Don’t worry I will make you look skinny".
And the following day she will present me with a perfectly- cut, finely-made article of clothing. And true to her word I’ll look a stone lighter.
Morning Marathons
Watching the swimmers, paddlers, beach soccer or badminton players during my light morning jog in Nha Trang always provides endless entertainment. Usually I'm joined by a local man, Cuong. Sometimes it is a steady run – from the port, where the fishermen are bringing in the overnight catch, down to the local swimming pool. Other mornings Cuong will push the pace and we run sets of sprints all the way from where the tai chi ladies perform their moves to the plastic-seat-sitting-tea-drinking old men. A morning jog with Cuong is not only good for my health but a great source for local insights as he points out the best spots for eating fresh seafood, or tasting the local brew, or for watching the sunrise over the South China Sea. Of course, to gain any of this knowledge you have to be able to keep up with him.
