New fundraising cycling trip with World Bicycle Relief

Intrepid Travel introduces new cycling trip in partnership with World Bicycle Relief

January 2026

Intrepid Travel, a global leader in responsible travel, has partnered with World Bicycle Relief, a non-profit focused on mobilising rural communities through bicycles, to launch a special-edition fundraising trip in Colombia. Starting in Cartagena, the eight-day Buffalo Ride Colombia, which runs from 28 August to 4 September, will take travellers along Colombia’s Caribbean coast to Santa Marta. Highlights include cycling to Minca – a small town in the foothills of Sierra Nevada, visiting a local wildlife sanctuary in the fishing village of Camarones and riding alongside World Bicycle Relief staff to learn about their work.

The development of the new trip follows the success of Intrepid’s inaugural fundraising trip in Kenya in 2025, which raised over $40,000 AUD and connected 14 travellers with rural communities benefitting from their fundraising support. The 8-day Buffalo Ride Kenya – which starts in Nairobi and leads travellers through the Rift Valley to Kisumu – will also return this year from 27 May to 4 June.

Ahead of the trips, travellers will each fundraise $2,500 AUD for World Bicycle Relief through The Intrepid Foundation, enough to deliver 10 bicycles directly to local communities. A long-standing partner of The Intrepid Foundation, World Bicycle Relief supports individuals in rural communities around the globe to access education, healthcare and vital services through the provision of bicycles. After raising over $120,000 for World Bicycle Relief last year, The Intrepid Foundation has set its largest fundraising goal for the non-profit to date, reinforcing its mission to create positive change through the joy of travel.

“We deeply believe in the power of travel to drive meaningful, lasting change. Through our partnership with World Bicycle Relief, these fundraising trips allow travellers to see the real impact they’re helping to create – connecting with communities whose lives have been changed, while experiencing incredible destinations by bike,” commented Biheng Zhang, General Manager of The Intrepid Foundation.

In addition to the fundraising trips, Intrepid supports the work of World Bicycle Relief through its annual Buffalo Ride, now in its fourth year. Taking place on 3 May, the global fundraising event gives riders around the world the opportunity to ride for good and raise funds to help mobilise more women and girls in rural communities through the provision of bicycles.

“Nearly one billion people living in rural communities remain so isolated they’re forced to walk hours to access essential services – yet something as simple as a bicycle can be life-changing, opening up access to healthcare, education and livelihoods. We’re excited to continue working with The Intrepid Foundation to launch these initiatives and put more bikes into the hands of people in low-income rural communities around the world,” says Di Mason, Managing Director World Bicycle Relief Australia.

Designed by World Bicycle Relief, the Buffalo Bike is built to withstand rugged terrain and heavy loads, offering a durable and sustainable transport solution. Over the last 20 years, World Bicycle Relief has distributed more than 868,000 bicycles in rural regions and supported more than four million people to thrive.

Travellers can find out more and secure their spot on Intrepid’s Buffalo Ride Kenya or the Buffalo Ride Colombia here (spaces are limited). Registration for the annual Buffalo Ride event is now open, and those who wish to participate can sign up here. Donations to World Bicycle Relief can be made through The Intrepid Foundation, with Intrepid Travel dollar-matching all monthly donations.
