Day 1 New York

The trip kicks off in New York City, where the vivacious energy never fails to invigorate and inspire. There is no shortage of things to see and do in the city that never sleeps – now is a great chance to get a feel for the bright lights and buzzing culture, which you’ll get to explore in more depth at the end of the trip. Check out the iconic sights, dip in to some of the quirkier pockets, or indulge in a quick splash of retail therapy in the dazzling shopping districts.

Day 2 Philadelphia

Once the capital of the USA, Philadelphia is full of historic monuments and cultural centres. Take a walking tour to check out the Liberty Bell, Benjamin Franklin’s house and Independence Hall. With lush parklands, a flourishing music and arts scene and friendly neighbourhoods, its no surprise this place is known as the ‘City of Brotherly Love’.

Days 3-4 Washington DC

Tour the famous monuments and political sites of Washington, DC, from the White House to the Capitol Building to the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial and National Air and Space Museum. In the evening, take a trip to Georgetown for a taste of the colorful nightlife. This is a city that works hard and plays harder.

Days 5-6 Charlotte

Settle in for a day on the train as you travel to Charlotte, arriving in time to feast on a dinner of traditional Southern food. Explore the historic neighourhoods, take a bike tour of the best food hotspots and relax in the fresh air of the many parks and gardens.

Days 7-8 Atlanta

Often referred to as the ‘New York of the South’, Atlanta is big city with a wide range of parks, museums, restaurants and bars to explore. Enjoy some free time to check out the World of Coca Cola, CNN Center, the Martin Luther King Jr Historic Site, and the Margaret Mitchell House and Museum.

Day 9 Birmingham

Hop aboard a train and head further into Dixie, arriving in Birmingham just in time to check out one of the centres of the Civil Rights Movement.

Days 10-12 New Orleans

Delve into the jazzy heart of New Orleans, where a fiery mix of European, Creole and Cajun culture manifests itself in every aspect of local life, from the architecture to the cuisine to the music scene. Absorb the buzzing vibe of Bourbon St, take a peaceful stroll through the Garden District or get to know the French Quarter.

Days 13-14 Memphis

Take a train to the home of the blues. Chill out in the traditional blues clubs of Beale Street, made famous by legends such as Louis Armstrong, Muddy Waters and B.B. King. Then head to Graceland to pay tribute to Elvis Presley and tour Sun Studios for an extra slice of music history.

Days 15-16 Nashville

The music history tour continues in Nashville. Immerse yourself in the capital of country music, nestled on the banks of the Cumberland River. Visit the famous Wildhorse Saloon and the Country Music Hall of Fame, where you can see Elvis’s golden Cadillac, then take a stroll down Music Row, home to more than 50 record studios and music publishing houses.

Days 17-18 Louisville

Arrive in Louisville, best known as home of the Kentucky Derby and the birthplace of the Louisville Slugger baseball bats. Wander through gorgeous parks, sample the cuisine of the flourishing restaurant scene and admire the USA’s largest collection of Victorian homes. If you don’t mind a sip of bourbon or two, follow the Bourbon Trail and visit some of the best distilleries, learning the history of the beverage as you go.

Days 19-21 Chicago

Continue the adventure on the shores of the Great Lakes, among the towering skyscrapers of Chicago. Enjoy free time to tackle the many walking trails and parks, head out for some deep-dish pizza or get a bird's-eye view from Willis Tower – the tallest building in the United States.

Days 22-23 Toronto/Niagara Falls

Cross the border into Canada and perhaps head up the giant CN tower for a look at this ultra-cool, ultra-clean capital, or see it from the ground on an optional bike tour. The next day, get a dose of one of North America’s most iconic marvels on a daytrip to the rampaging waters of Niagara Falls. If it’s not too cold, don a raincoat and head out on the waters for a Maid of the Mist boat tour.

Get caught up in the scholarly history of Boston with a trip to Cambridge, explore the Italian district or walk the Freedom Trail to learn about America’s founding fathers.
