I can still smell the Khmer curry - and I am still attempting to make it myself! Cambodia is moving, magical and is a place you will remember forever. It takes a few days to realize most of the population is under 40 years of age and then you discover why. Learning about the history of Cambodia and its struggles is just as important as witnessing the grandeur of the Angkor Temples. The local children will win you over with their smiles, the local women with their beauty and the local men with their pride and knowledge. It is, quite simply, an enchanting country. I went with no expectations and left with memories of a country and people who will always be in my heart.

One in a Million
In 2005, the ancient city of Angkor posted over one million visitors. Every day, rain or shine, people from all six populated continents wake before dawn and drag their sleepy bottoms to catch the 'sunrise session' at Angkor Wat. How does anybody truly find the reverence and solitude necessary to enjoy South-East Asia's most incredible historical and religious site while jostling with hundreds - sometimes thousands - of other tourists?
My answer is simple: Head to Bakong temple at sunset.
This Angkor Wat precursor forms the heart of the rarely visited Roluos group of temples. Here, the sounds of playing children in a nearby school echo through the evening air. Saffron-robed monks wander around the grounds. As radiant sunset light falls over the jungle, celebrate a hard day's temple touring with an Angkor beer in hand and an empty Angkor temple all to yourself.
