Africa might conjure up images of grassy plains and dusty van rides, but did you know you can cruise around the continent too?
Cruising the coastline of Africa is a truly unique way to see the stunning natural landscapes and wildlife, beyond the usual game park drive. See animals and birds on the rivers and deltas of Senegal and Gambia that you wouldn’t find in many other places or perhaps you’re up for a spot of island-hopping through the Seychelles? These pristine beaches and crystal-clear waters will rival the most touristed tropical islands in the world and will allow you to relax without the crowds.

Highlights of Africa cruises

Explore the Caves of Hercules
The Caves of Hercules in Morocco are rumoured to be the very place that Hercules slept in during his labours. You can access the caves from both land and sea, but the sea opening is actually an outline of the African continent itself, shaped by the ancient Phoenicians.

Taste Santo Antao's delicacies
The fiery flavours of Santo Antao will delight any foodie that visits. The cuisine is a mix of Portuguese, African and European influences, with fresh seafood, flavoursome stews and fresh fruits and vegetables aplenty. Don’t forget to try the local sugarcane rum known as grogue.

Relax on the world's most beautiful beach
If you like snorkelling, you absolutely must visit the Seychelles. While there isn’t a bad beach in the area, the Anse Source d’Argent on La Digue has the reputation of being one of the most beautiful. Classic white sands and palm trees meet clear waters, full of colourful coral and schools of tropical fish.

Spot wildlife on the shore
Cruise close to the shore of River Gambia National Park and you might get lucky enough to spot hippos, crocodiles, monkeys and The Gambia’s famous birdlife. If you’re lucky, you may also see chimpanzees, who reside on the islands thanks to the Chimpanzee Rehabilitation Project.
Why choose Intrepid

Small ships, small groups
With fewer than 50 passengers on every adventure cruise, our groups are the perfect size for mingling at happy hour and really getting to know your fellow travellers. Smaller groups mean more personalised service, like one-on-one chats with your leader about history, culture and food, or your favourite ice-cold beer handed to you by the bar manager at the end of a day of exploring.

Specialised service
We’re right there with you to ensure your adventure is memorable for all the right reasons. Our expert local leaders facilitate incredible land experiences, while the ship’s friendly crew make sure you have everything you need – from a room that’s sparkling clean to a glass of sparkling wine – to enjoy your time on board.

Dining with a local twist
Whether it’s a barbecue on a deserted beach, the catch-of-the day cooked up by your onboard chef or the gourmet breakfast that’s served each morning, our culinary experiences are designed to complement your journey and help you create memories you’ll savour forever – on and off the boat.

Cruise the seas less travelled
Our small ships give you access to those out-of-the way spots the big ships can’t reach. We’ll show you the guidebook favourites from a new perspective, then cruise away from the crowds so you can stroll through seaside villages, swim in hidden coves and get a real insight into local living.

A floating boutique hotel
Our ships combine all the comforts and personality of a boutique hotel with the freedom of the open water. Relax in your well-appointed cabin and wake to a different outlook each morning. Enjoy panoramic views from the sun deck, spend time in comfortable lounges and spacious dining rooms, or dine al fresco underneath a sea of stars.

Sustainable travel
We strive to use travel as a force for good. That’s why we choose to give back to the communities we visit, carbon offset all our trips and take our social and environmental responsibilities seriously. We’ve been officially certified as the world’s largest travel B Corp, which means when you choose Intrepid Travel, you can rest assured you’re travelling to improve the planet.
