Days 1-2 Kathmandu

Hit the streets of Thamel to see why this unashamedly tourist town is sometimes known as a backpackers Disneyland. The following morning, if the weather is kind, perhaps head out on a scenic flight through the mountains of Sagarmartha National Park, around the highest peaks in the world, including mighty Mt Everest itself. Wander the narrow alleyways of Kathmandu's Old Town, explore Durbar Square and check out Nepal's most famous Hindu temple.

Days 3-4 Pokhara

Catch an early flight to Pokhara – Nepal's lively trekking town, nestled beside a placid lake and backed by the soaring Annapurna range. Relax on a boat ride across the lake for excellent views of the mountains. Stare up at the peaks and watch the mountain tops glisten with silky white snow. Visit the Peace Pagado and the fascinating International Mountain Museum. The following day is a free day to partake in whatever activity takes your fancy.

Days 5-6 Bandipur

Rise early for a morning drive to the traditional Nepalese settlement of Bandipur. Still housing traditional Newari homes with carved wooden windows and slate roofs, this delightful mountain town has somehow managed to withstand the effects of tourist development. Take in the views and explore this incredible settlement while witnessing the workings of a traditional Newari village.

Days 7-8 Chitwan National Park

Head to Chitwan National Park and get to know the wildlife of the region. Perhaps explore a native elephant camp and spend some time on the backs of these jungle giants. Search for Indian rhinos, deer and exotic birdlife in the park and you're if lucky, maybe spot a tiger. Afterwards, watch the Tharu dance troupe perform a cultural program before a tasty dinner. The following morning, hit the Rapti River in a canoe to see marsh mugger crocodiles before jumping into a jeep and exploring a nearby village.

Day 9 Bhaktapur

Visit the former capital of Nepal, Bhaktapur. Spend some time meandering the streets and temples of this quaint town, making sure to explore the 15th-century palace and the five-story pagoda at Bhaktapur Durbar Square. Don’t forget to sample juju dhau, a sweet, custard-like yoghurt – the region's specialty.
