Annapurna Sanctuary SummaryAdd to Shortlist
A fusion of historical and modern, the city of Kathmandu swarms with life and colour a wonderful place to begin this Nepal trekking experience. Meet monkeys while climbing to Swayambhunath and delve into the mystical charm of Durbar Square.
Travel south-east to ancient Bhaktapur, a haven of intricate temples, grand old palaces and vibrant courtyards. Few cars enter Bhaktapur, so wandering through the paved streets and narrow alleyways offers a taste of pre-modern Kathmandu.
Temples and palaces are replaced by soaring mountains and mirror lakes. Once on the vibrant trade route between India and Tibet, Pokhara is the gateway to some of Nepal's greatest treks.
Hike through lowland pastures and peaceful villages, past thundering waterfalls and powerful glaciers, and be surrounded by unspeakably beautiful landscapes. The ever-changing scenery covers some of the most ruggedly beautiful mountains in the world and it's easy to understand why hiking in Nepal has long been revered by adventure travellers. Stay in basic Nepalese teahouses operated by locals and learn about the daily lives of the hill people. Witness spectacular sunrises over the Annapurna ranges and soak tired muscles in natural hot springs along the way. While the Annapurna Sanctuary trek is challenging, it is a great way to experience these spectacular mountains without the major issues associated with high altitude - the optional trek to Annapurna Base Camp (4,130 m) is the greatest elevation reached.
The final stretch is downhill all the way. With the hard work all done, enjoy a well-earned shower back in Pokhara and plenty of time to relax, recover and reminisce about the Annapurna experience.

Annapurna Sanctuary, May 2014
The tour was great. Ashok, Dependra and Suburna were great! What wasn't great was that I got sick. Super sick. But that is a separate story. They were wonderful. I loved Ashok. He watched out for me, and I needed to be watched out for. I have no idea how I got through that trip. Seriously, no idea. I rated mostly good instead of excellent, because I feel like there is always room to grow and learn and better yourself. So I think he was pretty excellent at everything, but there's always more to learn, and things that I would t have even thought could be a factor, so I hope good still gets Ashok a bonus. Or accolades and many more trips in the future

Ashok was an EXCELLENT guide. He gave us clear expectations and instructions every day so we knew what was going on. He was highly in tune with our numerous health/sickness issues while travelling and went above and beyond to help us feel better (some examples: when I did not have medicines I needed, he called around to numerous pharmacies to find out which were open so we could swing by to get what I needed. He told us to wake him up any time of night if we are feeling sick and/or need help for any reason). He entertained us in down time with riddles and games, and was knowledgeable on facts about the region which was really interesting to hear about. He had a great attitude the entire trip and made it a really fun experience. After the trip, we all consider him a friend.
