Sail Greece - Ionian Sea Itinerary

Kick off this Ionian Sea sailing odyssey from the port of Vounaki, framed by the surrounding Arkanika Mountains. Visit a delightful 16th-century monastery, venture out on a walk through pine forests or sit back and enjoy a drop of local vino. Then, set sail for Meganisi.

Discover the freedom of the water as the vessel charges across the blue waters. Drop anchor on Ithaki, a charming island with classic Greek architecture and a chequered past. Get a taste of history in the nautical and folklore museum, dine al fresco by the waterside or find a quiet spot on a pebbly beach nearby.

Hit the open waters again, this time bound for lush, exotic Zakynthos. Head up to the castle ruins behind town to enjoy panoramic vistas of the sparkling Mediterranean or strap on a snorkel and spot colourful fish who make their home in the waters off Shipwreck Beach.

Take in more awe-inspiring seascapes on the journey to Kefallonia, made famous by the novel and film, Captain Corelli’s Mandolin. Meander along the cobblestoned Lithostroto Street, uncover treasures in tiny shops and perhaps check out the incredible subterranean sea lake in Melissani Cave.

Drag up the anchor and set sail for the less-frequented shores of Kalamos. Enjoy the laidback atmosphere afforded by this less-frequented area, taking the opportunity to mingle with locals, sample local delights or go snorkelling on Agrapidia Beach.

Head to the bay of Vonitsa in the Gulf of Ambracia. Stroll out along the marina and shoreline, gazing back over this picturesque town with attractive stone and tile buildings and wide streets. In free time, why not explore the 12th-century Chapel of Sofia.

Keep a look out for the bottle-nosed dolphins who frequent this area while sailing to Lefkada, which is packed with vibrant restaurants and bars, a dramatic coastline, sprawling vineyards and fantastic beaches.
