Have the chance to cruise the Niger River on a traditional pinasse boat and trek mountain terrain in search of Dogon villages. Head south to explore the lush tropical wilderness on game drives in Kakum Park, Ghana, and then laze on the remarkable black sands of Limbe's beaches in Cameroon. The itinerary for all future departures will be changing to instead travel from Senegal through The Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea, Cote d'Ivoire to Ghana. Day 1 Dakar

Travel to Senegal and stay at seaside Dakar city.

Days 2-3 St Louis

Check out the Parc National de la Langue de Barbarie, Senegal.

Days 4-5 Palmarin

Leave Senegal's beaches to explore by canoe.

Days 6-7 Kiang West National Park

Today we head 200 km across the Gambian border to a river campsite at Tendaba, neighbouring Kiang West National Park, where we camp for 2 nights. Established as a national park in 1987, Kiang West is now the largest national park in the Gambia. Situated on the south bank of the river it encompasses dry deciduous woodland, savannah, mangrove creeks and tidal flats. Over 300 species of birds have been sighted in the area, including 21 raptors: vultures, harrier eagles, sandgrouse, Blue-breasted, Kingfisher hawks, white-shouldered black tit and falcons. An ideal spot to watch birds is Tubabkollon Point. Also can be seen are the West African Manatee, otters, sitatunga and roan antelopes plus rarer sightings of animals include the hyenas, leopards and dolphins.

Day 8 Basse Santu-Su

Travel through the centre of western Gambia.

Days 9-10 Niokolo-Koba National Park

Embark on game drives in this forested park.

Day 11 Kayes/Bush Camp

Cross the border and travel to Mali.

Days 12-14 Bamako

Discover the delights of Bamako city, home to some of Africa's finest musicians.

Days 15-17 Mandingue Country Trek

Trek into the remote heart of Mandingue country and mingle with friendly locals on village stays.

Day 18 Bamako

Arrive back at Bamako city to rest.

Day 19 Segou

Relax into the laidback pace of Segou.

Day 20 Bush Camp

Travel to Burkina Faso and camp under a starry African sky.

Days 21-22 Ouagadougou

Dance the night away to the sounds of local musicians in Ouagadougou.

Days 23-24 Bobo-Dioulasso

See Burkina Faso attractions, including a sacred fishpond.

Days 25-26 Banfora

Head through an avenue of mango trees to the spectacular Karfiguela Falls.

Day 27 Bush Camp

Travel to Ghana - home to national parks, coastal beauty, colourful markets and an acclaimed music scene.

Days 28-29 Mole National Park

Mole National Park rivals those of East Africa for its wildlife safaris.

Day 30 Kintampo Falls

See the impressive Kintampo Falls and visit the Baobeng-Fiema Monkey Sanctuary.

Days 31-32 Kumasi

Browse the lively markets of bustling Kumasi city.

Days 33-34 Elmina

Lend a hand at a rural educational and building project.

Days 35-36 Accra

Relax on beautiful Accra beach.

Days 37-38 Keta

Chill out on coastal Keta.

Day 39 Akosombo/Lake Volta

Visit Lake Volta, the largest artificial lake in the world.

Days 40-41 Mt Klouto
