Day 1 Quito
Nestled in a sprawling valley, Quito is one South American capital well worth exploring. Wander the colonial-style cobblestone streets and elegant architecture of the UNESCO-listed Old Town, learn about the city's history at one of the many museums or enjoy a drink at one of the trendy bars, cafes or restaurants lining the Mariscal district.
Days 2-4 Isla Isabela
Catch a morning flight out to the Galapagos’ largest island: seahorse-shaped Isla Isabela. The result of six large volcanoes merging into one single landmass, Isabela offers a fantastic introduction to Galapagos landscapes and wildlife. The island’s Giant Tortoise Breeding Centre is a great place to learn more about these ancient creatures, while sea turtles, rays and a kaleidoscope of tropical fish can often be spotted on snorkelling outings off the coast.

Day 5 Santa Cruz Island
Visit the pristine, white sandy beach of Tortuga Bay on Isla Santa Cruz for the opportunity to view some of the Galapagos’ most famous critters. For a surreal surfing experience, why not hit the waves among the resident population of marine iguanas and sea lions.

Days 6-7 Isla San Cristobal
Once home to the late, great Lonesome George (the Galapagos’ most famous giant tortoise), the Charles Darwin Research Station is the perfect place to observe up close the many species of tortoises and land iguanas that have been brought back from the brink of extinction. Opt to hike to the top of Frigatebird Hill for panoramic views of the Pacific towards Santa Cruz, Floreana and Santa Fe, or observe sea lions and magnificent frigatebirds on the shores of Mann Beach.

Days 8-9 Quito
Bid farewell to the wildlife wonderland that is the Galapagos Islands. Head back to Quito for the final night of this trip, where there's time to enjoy the city’s night-life and get a last taste of Ecuadorian cuisine and culture.

Galapagos Venture, June 2014
Rachel Whitmire Miller
Overall, I got to see 99% of everything that I wanted to see and the Galapagos Islands were beautiful and very interesting. If you participate in all of the excursions, included and optional, it is non-stop. You don't really have time for shopping or rest, but if the pace was slower you'd really miss out on seeing the sights.
